i'm getting bored with all this. I see that Norwich have snapped up Johnny Howson from Leeds today. My mate in Leeds is absolutely gutted and I'm not surprised. he's a good young player. Pilkington was bought from Huddersfield. Both these players, as well as Bradley Johnson (yes that Bradley Johnson) made the step up to the PL without any problems at all. Yet we seem to be constantly on the verge of signing Joe Hasbeen and co. for silly money verging on 8 figures.

Before I get carried away with this, can someone please explain to me why our manager (past and present) can't be arsed even to try to get good young payers from the lower leagues? Is it some vanity trip? Do our owners think we are too posh for that now? if they do they will soon have to reassess their options at the end of the season.

I cannot see that constantly talking about players we have (or may have not) bid for does anything at all for our negotiating position?

    Your views please.

Maybe try young players in the summer but right now we need proven PL quality rather than taking a punt you a lower league player who may or may not make it.

Johnny Howson is very calm and assured on the ball and a good passer, he would be perfect for us. Can we honestly say the same about Derry, Buzz, Smith, Mackie or SWP?

In addition to that you could probably get him for £25k per week as opposed to £50k plus for the 'proven premier league quality' that can't get in their own premier league team. Howson would be excited about stepping up to the PL rather than cautious of playing for a smaller PL team with a small ground and s**te training facilities.

MK Dons moved the ball round exceptionally at times last night and we looked liked the League 1 side

We only definitely KNOW of Alex, Henrique and Samba as targets. Lots of press speculation about 100 other players.

Who knows what MH and the board are doing behind the scenes. There will be irons in fires all over the place.

As usual, just because one team actually signs someone before us then some people start moaning.

Let MH try and get the people he wants in place. His first job is to try and prevent relegation. Building for the future is great ... if we have a future.

MH has a history of making some great young signings and building teams. First he has to stabalise, then build. Give him a flipping chance at QPR.

Funny init Newcastle announced fee agreed yesterday morning and all signed done and dusted by 10 pm.
All we seem to have is a soap opera surrounding every signing.

Valid comment, Eamon. However, Alex and Samba have been on the horizon for several weeks before Sparky even joined. The figures being put forward now as compared to 3 weeks ago prove my point exactly. The prices are silly and getting sillier by the tweet.

Sparky has indeed made good signings in the past and I hope he does so this time. But surely you can see that one player who may have difficulty getting a work permit is not a massive advance on the position we already knew well before Neil Warnock's departure.

There is a danger I have alluded to previously that spending all our money on experienced PL players now may not leave us in a good position in the future to hunt for young talent at the end of the season. My question was directed at the current policy, i.e over the whole of this season. Buying experienced big name players has not so far served us as well as the more modest acquisitions of the two other promotees. Thier squads seem to have gelled. Ours most ceratinly has not.

Well said its the MH story from now on ... I feel he can also work with the players we have got:

I am sure he will spot talent from any league in the world ... the team is the fundamental thing here its about restoring pride and confidence and its his call now.
Confidence makes players and confidence in matches rubs off on others ... Look at MK dons last night they looked strong in all positions as a team. I watched the newcastle game again and we looked OK. I expect a narrow win against Wigan and plenty more moans but just buying players is daft as is slagging players. I said last night why not just buy MK Dons that right buy the lot of them ... within two weeks you would see faults and then they would all be rubbish.
I have played in teams that won every game in a season punching way above our weight why? we were a team I have joined teams where i got £200 a game and we were rubbish, I was rubbish ... it goes from bad to worst then a new manager is brought in and you start again ... I went from central midfield to left back and the team clicked some left some new players were signed ... thats how it works whatever level you play at.

On Sunday after our match Pardew didn't give any hint of bringing someone in, then bang, just like that. Completely under the radar a quality prolific striker. Our lot are too busy tweeting and twittering or whatever bollox they call it...

We are in that position because TF needs to buy success at the moment .. that is now being judged as survival as the money is massive as is the profile and marketing.
There is no answer if spending millions is the solution but time building a team like Norwich and the Swans can't be brought right out . We had a great team last year MH will be also looking at how he gets that back ... sadly without Faurlin/Tarrabt it maybe unfixable ... time for Barton SWP to walk the walk

All this posturing and ridicculous bids £39.75 for Alex and £750,000 for Messi ffs spend the dough or go to the lower leagues, Rhodes has scored more goals this season than we have in the last calender year stop ****ing about and do something.
Gomes ffs why do we need him? The whole thing is a pantomime

Our best players this season have been those who were with us in the championship (with the possible exception of Young) and most of them were bought from the lower leagues (e.g. Mackie, Faurlin). Surely it makes sense to start looking around the lower leagues again. Ricky Lambert of Southampton is better than SWP and would not only actually try in every game but would be on significantly lower wages. Jordan rhodes is the most in form striker in the country and I personally think would not only be able to step up, but would also put 100% in each game to prove he deserved to be in the prem. It makes far more sense in the long term for the club to start looking around for lower leagues players to bring up because if worst comes to worst and we get relegated, then we'll have good players not on stupid premier league wages ready to play for the club, with premier league experience ready to take us up. Do any of you honestly think Barton, SWP, Alex (if we get him) are gonna hang around for long if we go down? You can be sure that players like Mackie or Rhodes wouldn't

Heard Tim Vickerey (sp?) on the radio earlier saying he was a very long way from being a good buy in our present unfortunate circumstances.

    ???
