I've said this before and I'll say it again: I reckon he'll be another Mackail Smith - brilliant at L1 level but does FA any level above that
Can't see this one happening in a million years - Huddersfield will never sell unless we start offering them mental money.
I'm going to stick my neck out and say yes. I don't think Rhodes has what it takes for the Premier League.
Selling Rhodes could set back Huddersfeild another year in getting promoted. If they end up going up they would perhaps sell in the summer to a prem team, by which time our tranfers objectives could have changed.
The key word here being potential. I have no doubt he has the potential to play premiership football but I think for us as a club to spend more than £4 million on a player that could make the grade is to big a risk.
Don't agree - 27 goals in 24 appearances, even if its in L1 is one hell of an achievement, I think he would be a great buy.
Who could we sign who has already made the grade in the PL? Unless you count Jay Rodrigues making some appearances for Burnley in their bref stint in the top flight, the only Championship player under 30 to have made the grade is Carlton Cole. Hooper hasn't done it yet either. Potential to make the grade will be the best we can hope for.
I agree, the point I was trying to make is I think it's a big risk paying these over inflated transfer fees. I'm not against taking a chance on a good player who shows plenty of promise as long as it is at the right price. When you are talking upwards of £5/6 million for the likes of Rhodes who hasn't played above League one level for me that would be to big a risk to take. He may well go on to be another Alan Shearer but to pay any more than £3/4 million would be to much IMO. Your right in that there are not that many proven players available but that shouldn't give us reason to pay over the odds. If I'm paying £5/8 million for a player I would expect them to have performed at the top level. Just my opinion
Maybe your opinion, but British football players value are always way over inflated. So if your not up for paying a few more for a british player, you're have to buy a foreigner.
I agree but do you really think Rhodes is worth the kind of money being talked about? I wouldn't mind paying a little over the odds but if reports of £6/8 million are to be believe then not for me. Connor Wickam is a prime example, Sunderland paid around £10 million (I think, may have been a little less) for him and so far he has one goal to his name. Now I have no doubt he will become a very good player but that is not the sort of return you want if you are looking to compete in the Premiership. We can't afford to risk that sort of money. If it means we have to go foreign, so be it..
Fair shout, to be fair we rarely sign people for big fee's, hence we never seem to have huge expectations on a player. If we pay those sort of numbers we will expect from them. The thing is, sometimes, you have to take risks, and strikers who score goals, at any level fetch large fee's. Look at the report this morning of the non league striker, they are talking £1million for him !!! Crazy money. Rhodes and Hooper are both young enough with potential sell on value, both have astonishing goalscoring records so I would welcome them with open arms should they join us. It would be a real statement of intent from Saints, and encourage even more feel good factor. The fact we can get Guly scoring goals for fun, imagine the chances rhodes/hooper would gobble up. We create alot of chances. COYR
This is were they have you over a barrel, you need a certain amount of english players in your squad. With the very few good young players about the prices will be crazy. It' s up to the manager if he wants to take the gamble. Adkins has worked with Hooper in the past so he would know what he is like. As for Rhodes I would pay 4-5 mil max, but then again soon as a prem team is interested the price goes crazy.
