Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is in talks with Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard after agreeing a £2.2million deal for the contract rebel. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/tra...s-after-fee-of-2-2m-agreed-article856894.html if its true, what do you think 2.2 mill. £550,000 has to go to Crewe so we get 1,650,000, dosent seem a lot
If true then Wigan have got a bargain, Maynard has achieved his dream of Premiership football (albeit a doomed relegation battle) City have got over £1.5m and reduced the wage bill, and Crew also get a decent lump sum. Probably the best deal for everyone, although it would be nice if it became a bidding war with one or two other clubs for a couple of days just to raise some more funds. I hope it goes through then we can all move on.
I got a feeling Crewe would get nothing at that price, they would get a % of the deal if he was sold for a price higher than what we paid for him.... something like that!
Good deal for them and we get our money back. But I will be a bit surprised if NM actually agrees to this move myself. Won't help his cause with the fans if that is what happens and it comes out
Wigan have also already signed a striker from Birmingham yesterday. Whether we get £1.5m or £2.2m it's better than getting nothing for him at all and it would be an arrangement that would hopefully suit all parties. I think for Crewe to get any money via the sell on clause the fee has to be more than we paid them originally. All he has to do now is convince himself that Wigan is a nice place to live and that there is no threat of relegation if he moves there...!
they say beggars can't be choosers, but does Nicky want to go to Wigan? would their wages match what City had offered? do they match his ambitions?... I think Nicky will be on the bench again this weekend whoever he is playing for!
If this is actually true which I have doubts. Wigan are threatened with relegation yes but like every year they somehow manage to stay up on the final day, so would he want to go their and play 4 months of prem footy then back in the championship if they do go down ?
Like others have already said Crewe only get a kick back if the selling price is higher than the original transfer fee. Grab the money and run is my advice although Nicky could refuse and probably will. Surely it's time the FA did something to avoid these sort of situations because the player is clearly abusing his current employer and holding them to ransom. Very regrettable circumstances that could and should be avoided. Move on City and forget Nicky, as he has clearly forgotten us!
Locationwise, he comes from up north anyway, so no reason to avoid the area. Being a trifle arrogant, he will probably feel that he can score the goals to keep them up - and he may well be right. However, he had best get comfortable with the idea of being on the wrong end of a few thumpings as well, because Wigan are the whipping boys of the Prem.
Surely Crewe only get paid on any profit we make? i.e. none. Bye Maynard, you had 1 memorable season but have not been the same since you fell off your skis you nobbler...
According to the express it's a done deal for £2m. They say we're re-investing some of it in Dobbie. Would be good if it all happens like that.
I'll miss him but at least we'll get something for him this way. Rather this than him leave in the summer. Shame he wouldn't have signed for Leicester, 7 mil would have been lovely
I can see this deal going like the last player we sold to Wigan..... oh what was his name.....David Rhys George Best Cotterill
A little? A lot! If he had played well this season scored a lot of goals and then left for the prem at the end of the season I think most fans would have wished him well. But he has played poorly (in general) missed a lot of chances and not really looked bothered so the fans want him out now...
I agree that Nicky has overstayed his welcome at Ashton Gate when things could have been handled in a much more professional way. Sometimes biting off the hand that fed you comes back and bites you! Hope you're happy Nicky because let's face it your satisfaction is all that matters.
So, City get there money back - good, but he seems to have alienated most oaf the fans by dragging his feet. Crewe get nothing - they can't be happy, plus the fans of his home town club will be a little put out by his behaviour. Wigan are paying a reasonable amount of money for a player who at best blows hot or cold, can no longer be called prolific, and appears to be a slight pain in the arse - good luck staying up. I think there is every chance that young Mr Maynard will be visiting Ashton Gate next year - in a blue shirt!
