I've got a bad feeling they might go for Bruce on the grounds that he's English, cheap and available.
I am suggesting a law change that means the nation should have to have a manager of their nationality. On the manager front i am very unsure, i am a huge admirer of Harry Redknappy but i see that is unlikely. Other managers we are very short on, Stuart Pearace, Gareth Southgate will all be in the frame. What about Roy Hodgson?
In a way the FA have a get out of jail free card because there's been so much demand for an English manager that they can say that their hand was forced.
I understand what you're saying but the current crop of English managers aren't even seen as good enough to manage our best clubs, so I can't see them being very successful on the international scene.
The problem is people limiting the choice of manager and players to those in the so called top flight. That lumbers us with hapless media useful sound bite types like Bruce and a bundle of self centred passionless mercenaries playing in an expensive ****hole down south.
If we did go for an English manager I would rather we gave a long contract to a good young manager with strong potential (not Barmby) and let him grow into the job with help from the best people in the game. The supporters would have to be patient in the early days, but hopefully we would end up with a good English manager.
For me, and been realistic I would go for: Mouriniho - Best manager out there, loves England, highly respected, and no nonsense. Down side, reckon he would want club manager job Hiddink - Excellent manager, been there, seen it, done it. Ideal for the post Anchelotti - Very experienced, knows how to handle players Cant see Wenger walking away from Arsenal (regardless of what some Arsenal fans think at moment). Other the Fergie I dont think any British managers are good enough: Redknapp - No international experience, limited European experience Big Sam - Turned a poor team into a hard to beat team, but nothing to get excited about, no international experience O'Neil - No international experience, just signed a big deal at Villa Bruce - No chance Southgate - Even less chance Pearce - Has done good work with U21's but not done much at club level or dealing with current "prima donna" modern senior players
