apologies if ive missed this question somewhere else, but why was he put on ahead of simpson?

he doesnt appear to be anywhere near the championship 11, i understand giving fringe players a chance to force there way in to the starting 11 but to me this just seemed a submission.
i was concerned when i read in the morning paper that a replay was the last thing we needed, i agree it was, but i said to my mate then if we go one down, its game over today as how badly will we chase an equaliser.

im not having a go at barmby at all, as all managers do it, but his selection and then subs where pretty much to blame yesterday, we arent good enough to rest our 4 best players and get away with it, it worked v ipswich because they where on a downward spiral and probably werent bothered either that day, crawley where either understimated or we werent bothered in the 1st place, fryatt and mclean where awful again and made the crawley backline look like the arsenal defence from the nineties...... not too bothered about going out the cup if we win tuesday, just a bit frustrating all the talk in the paper about giving it a real go, trying to get the crowds in, then witnessing that.
what really annoyed me was the little harry potter lookalike jobsworth steward, who wouldnt let me walk through the seats from south to east to meet my mate, despite there been 10,000 empty seats! if you read thse pages, i repeat my thoughts yesterday, your a c**T should be grateful people where there at all!

I don't know why he didn't stick Simpson on. I've never seen Cullen do anything to impress. He doesnt challenge in the air and hasn't got any great pace either. When's his contract up? Can we get rid of him so we don't have to play him again soon?

Barmby's always liked Cullen, hopefully not to the extent where he'll make the squad for a single game for the rest of the season.
I would have been livid if I was Simpson. When he was told he'd be given another chance, I reckon he had something more than one substitute appearance over the course of 4 games in mind.

Fryatt has been absolutely useless of late, I'd drop him from the squad entirely for the Doncaster game.

We needed a winger on the bench yesterday. Instead we had a keeper, two defenders, one central midfielder and three strikers. If not Stewart then surely at least Devitt should have made it ahead of Cullen.

as I said on another thread I reckon NB was hoping Cullen would net a goal so someone would take him on loan.. if you wanted a late goal Simpson's yer man..

got to think simpson will be on his way again..
it is strange that in a time we are struggling to get goals from strikers, we have one who has scored goals before in this league, admittedly inconsistently, who last time he played for 1 minute set up a goal not given a game in an ideal oppurtunity, if they had a massive fallout or something surely he wouldnt have even had him on the bench.
i agree about fryatt, i am a fan of his, but some games like yesterday its hard to make a case for him.

I feel sorry for Simpson but understand why Cullen came on, you can't just never play youngsters and expect them to get better on their own.

Had the same thoughts myself, and I agree with the rest of your post (except the last bit of course!)

After the Macclesfield game; it was proven that Jamie Devitt isn't good enough at this level. His crosses don't go over the first man, he's nowhere near at the level of Stewart and Brady.

As for Cullen, if he didn't get offisde as much then maybe he'd be OK, but as with Devitt there's a lot better at the club now and we need another winger too (late bid for Hammill?). Simpson needs to start against Doncaster IMO; show what he can do.
