Great signing. Not sure he is "last choice" as a few of you are saying. He turned us down in the summer remember? I'd imagine if he is coming down for a medical that personal terms are most likely already agreed which was the stumbling block last time.
Saintsfanalex reply with quote not working on the pc for some reason, anyway, Adkins does rate him though, he tried to sign him before did he not? Don't get me wrong, Hooper looked the nuts, but hey hum, Sharp is proven at this level, and in our team, could be tasty?
Thought there would be dancing on the streets with this news (well not quite). Ive said all along I want us to be sensible and wouldnt be dissapointed without major signings. HOWEVER we may possibly be sigining on of the divisions top scorers who has been injured played for a weak team and had horrible personal problems and yet still played his heart out. Cheap price aswell if it comes off then ill be over the moon. Cant believe some people arnt that happy the difference between him and hooper IMO isnt 6mil or watever.
Realistically, it was always going rto be between Sharp, Maynard and Jutkievicz - the Championship goalscorers up for sale. Speculative bidding is exactly that and most of the time won't yield results. Sharp is a solid signing ad one that would give us every chance of going up.
I am chuffed as it gets with this news, natural goalscorer perfect partner for Lambo, let's just hope it goes through ok! :-D
Rumour had it they we were always in the running and that the only reason it didn't progress in the summer was because he became aware that there was a problem with his baby. Adkins said at the time that Sharp didn't come for personal reasons.
He will be welcomed into the St Marys family and he and his wife will be given all the support they need.
we need to get players in who will get us into the EPL. proven performers at this level will do me fine. if they are for sale/loan from a premiership club its for a reason - not performing or not good enough. We can get players in the summer who will be ready for the next jump!
Yeah I take your point mate and after my first line I did add some positive stuff beneath I just have this feeling that I don't know if he is coming because he wants to or that Doncaster have said to him look we keep getting these offers which triggers your clause for release we can't afford to ever better their offers so take it while you can. What's changed between the summer or the first half of the season?. I would welcome his arrival just a bit baffled it would of been the same if Hooper signed after saying no.
The horrible events of his baby dying was all very sudden. That happened in late October I beleive, and we tried to get him in the summer. Whether it was a combination of wage issues and/or him hesitating on moving south I'm not sure, but he clearly feels like this is the right time for him to move on. I hope people give him time and are patient, because settling in will take time, especially in his circumstances. Doncaster as a place means a lot to him, that's clear.
A loan with a view to a move can often work out well. The loanee does his best and plays for a contract, but either party can back out if problems arrive.
If this signing comes off it will be brilliant news and I would be confident of automatic promotion. Lambert and Sharp would compliment each other perfectly and would form the best strike partnership outside the Premiership by a long way IMO. If it does come off, what is the cut off point for him to be available for Cardiff? I have a feeling it needed to be done by midday today to be able to play tomorrow.
Read somewhere on Donny site that he knew there were problems months before the baby sadly died. Only talk of course. Let's hope he now feels ready for a move...good addition to side.
