Haven't really ever rated Bridge but its a loan deal. Always thought him a bit of a pussy and seen him raped a few times. I remember Dyer just taking the mick out of him for fun. Looked awful at West Ham and every bit a mercenary but who knows O'Neill might be able to motivate him. I just think its funny that O'Neill has signed a left back in his first transfer window. Something Bruce failed to do in 3 years or so. Sums up Bruce. You bastards should never have hounded him out, he was doing a cracking job!

We have moaned long enough about a left back, although I sometimes thought it was McBardo's best position, Bridge on loan would seem a sensible move, especially if our options for the back four are becoming limited cos of injuries.

    OK good now a striker?

Mercenary!!! In what way could Bridge going to the SOL ever be called Mercenary?
One thing I can guarantee is he won't be on any more money by moving.

He seemed to be very badly affected by the low-life known as John Terry shagged his ex but before that I thought he looked the real deal. If anyone has a chance to get his head back in the game it's surely O'Neill and we've been saying we need a proper LB since Noah forgot to put any on his ark.

I'm actually pretty happy with this move... I wouldn't listen to the inevitable naysayers and I'll wait and see how MoN can work his magic.

Don't know why people are saying 'proper' LB. If your current LB (Richardson? I dunno) is better than Bridge, then that's just how it is. Whether either of them are a 'proper LB' or not is really pretty irrelevant.

Don't think he's a great signing tbh - but, MON is good at getting the best out of players, maybe he will with Bridge

LB has been our weakest position for 2 seasons now, even though i don't rate WB very much, he'd be good cover at least.

Its only a loan deal, don't see why everyone is getting worked up about it

Bring him in to add an extra option to the back line and wait till the summer and get someone better, if Bridge does a good job then sign him in the summer but I very much doubt it with the wages he is on.

As MoN has said this transfer window is to do with the short term and the summer will be for looking at players for the long term of the club

You chose, we've had Bardo, Ricco, Colback all playing LB this season. And before you mention it, yes i do know that none of them are 'proper' LB's.

So true this aswell. I think he fell out of love with it all after the **** with Terry. Always seemed to have the heart of a split pea anyway, and it seemed to mess with his head even more. He seemed to get into "I'm gonna take everything I can from this ****ing game" mode. Wouldn't leave Citeh and went on loan to West Ham because they were paying silly wages. He's not my cup of tea but as a short term signing in an area you have few proper options, with O'Neill's motivational skills, who knows. Might fancy actually doing something for his money now and I'm sure O'Neill thought long and hard about the cons before going for it.

Because, generally, a club only signs one player for a position they need a player in. Once you've signed someone like Bridge, it cancels out any chance of you bringing in a better left back which most other people had hoped for. That's what works people up.

Unless MoN is planning to buy two left backs today, but I doubt it.

you have obviously ignored the rest of my post as I do go on to say its a stop gap until the summer, MoN has spoken about this transfer window being all about the short term with SAFC and the summer will be about looking at players for the long term of the club.

Not at all. The same thing applies even on a short-term scale. Instead of having a better left back signing (even if its a loan until Summer) it means you've cancelled out any chance of getting someone better today.

Everyone wants the best players they can have for their club, whether its a perm deal or loan deal.

I'm not expecting he will get many games to be honest. Not sure he'll be any better than our makeshift left backs. By the time he gets anywhere near match fitness and is able to slot into the team the season will all but over! I believe the signing is merely a small risk that MON is willing to take!

    It's win/win.

If he flops, we send him back, if he recaptures his form, we have made a very astute signing.

    Simple.

yes but we all know in this transfer market clubs will not allow there better players to move on because they don't have long to find a replacement and players values rise. Wayne Bridge is probably the best option at the minute, there is not that many good left backs around and the clubs that do have them certainly won't be selling them this transfer window.

Bridge till the summer will be decent IMO then in the summer we will see who becomes available
