There's some serious short-term memory loss on display in this thread. Please try to remember that we've just knocked the top two teams in the PL out of the two domestic cup competitions, in one case leading to a day out at Wemberley! Get off his f..king back, will you.
Kenny said Babel was staying, which was the Liverpool way of saying 'he hasn't signed for anyone yet so at this very moment in time he is still a Liverpool player'. People jumped on his back when he did leave, asking why he said he wasn't going anywhere so don't take everything he says to heart. But it wouldn't surprise me, I can't see another busy deadline day for us after last time. It's a shame that stories and rumours are coming out of this now that the owners aren't giving Kenny money because they are not happy with him and are giving him till the end of the season, claiming they can't sack him because of the fans. They're also mentioning that he was never J Henry's first choice, just rehashed and exaggerated news.
Think we could sign someone, with the most likely Tevez on loan, Think its highly likely we wont though 8/1 we sign someone, 1/8 we dont
Its not (IMO) short term memory loss, its just recognition that we're not scoring the number of goals our play has been suggesting we can score. I don't expect we will sign anyone, but it is not to say we don't need a finisher to come in. It will be a disappointment if we get no-one, but its probably a measure of things that we look at it as disappointment, rather than anger over the way things have been going. Yes, we've knocked out the league's top two teams, but it wins nothing. We all know that finishing is a problem that needs addressing, whether its a new coach, or a new player, I don't know, but a player would be the usual way to resolve the problem.
Mark my words. Suarez will be like a new signing when he returns. I really believe he'll rip 'em up. I think Gerrard and him will link up beautifully, and this may well have a positive impacy on Carroll. Ye of little faith.
Suarez scored 4 in 13 games last season - its now 9 in 31 league performances for the Reds. To put that in perspective for everyone, Dirk's first full season for us after coming from Erdevise was 12 in 34 games. Luis is not an out-and-out goalscorer, he's a typical 7 or 10, not a 9. He'll rip 'em up, but unless someone gets on the end of his work, we're still going to have the scoring issue. Mark my words...
For me i just think there's nobody we really want or who will come thats available now. guys utd waited 2 years to get young and probably jones as well. they waited for value. but still spent close on 20mil apiece. We are not city who can go make laods of errors, we've already made one big blunder with carroll, tell me who's available? Honda? that guys been on offer for 2 years so i don't want his type of agent around us and i see an money hungry guy there.... hazard? m'villa, barrios, etc etc.. none are available. It'll not be unitl next summer that we'll see some hunting around and i expect us to sign younger players again.
Our goals from midfield is dire too, Ray Houghton was on LFCTV last night going on about in his day the entire midfield would get about 10 each a season, cant see our midfield gettin 10 between them at this rate
I have to laugh at the way all disagreements get polarized into the two extremes. It is possible to disagree with one aspect of the manager's performance whilst still thinking he's the best man for the job and being fully supportive of him and the team.
Best comment all day. I've not been a fan of Kenny's transfer policy yet, without doubt, still feel he is the one to bring success back to Anfield. And yes I do understand it's not all down to Kenny but he would have had quite a say in our transfers.
The strange thing about Suarez is that for Uruguay he bangs them in for fun, also for Ajax his goal scoring stats are incredible. He is a natural goal scorer without doubt (not in the traditional sense like Ian Rush etc.). Unfortunately this season he's had a mixture of bad partnership up front and bad luck (hit the post countless times!). All he needs is someone of quality along side him and he'll score plenty of goals. Mark my words...
^ This... Luis scored 12 goals in 34 Apps for Nacional and 111 goals in 159 Apps for Ajax... Don't know how you can say he's not an out and out goal scorer.
I'm just trying to council caution - Crouch looks like a world beater on his England stats, and as for playing in Holland, Kuyt scored 62 in 90 matches for Feyenoord, which is comparable. We need another goalscorer to take the burden off Suarez. Carroll may become that man, but also he may not...
I understand where your coming from and I do agree that we need another goalscorer but I'm just saying Luis can do it for Ajax then he can do it for us surely?
