    ** He's 19
    ** Attacking Midfielder
    ** Currently plays for Dortmund
** Has no caps for ANY German National Team at ANY level
** Hasn't even made the bench for the Dortmund team
** Got a bad ACL injury in 2009 that kept him out for ages
** Is behind Goetze and a couple of others in the pecking order
** Out of contract in summer
** Means it's a good deal for all parties - Dortmund aren't going to use him, Arsenal like paying low amounts, the player will get more opportunities
    ** 6 Goals & 6 Assists in 12 for Dortmund Under-19s this season

“I feel very proud to have signed for Arsenal. This is a great club, with many great players, and I’m so happy to be joining Arsenal.

"It’s a real honour to be team mates with the great players at Arsenal, and also training everyday with players like Tomas Rosicky - who I grew up watching play at Dortmund. I will give it everything I have here and do my best to make the manager, players and fans happy.

"I would also like to thank Borussia Dortmund, where I played for the last seven years, for everything they have done for me. I had a great time there, and there were many wonderful coaches who helped me get to where I am today."

Arsène Wenger said of the signing: “Thomas is a player we have liked for some time. We’ve watched him closely this season, where he has excelled for Dortmund’s youth team.

"He is young but has proven to us that he can play, that he has the attitude and technical ability to be a valuable addition to our squad. We’re very pleased to welcome him to the Club and look forward to his contribution in the coming seasons.”

Thoughts? Anyone know anything else about him??

Don't know much about him, but I do know that Wenger has a brilliant track record of unearthing gems. Let's hope he turns out to be another one <ok>

On BBC 5 Live coverage. They were talking about the Eisfeld signing and they said that we'd had a £6m bid for Rhys Williams rejected .....

That may be so, the site I qoted doesn't have the U15 German national record either. I suspect that the other 5 assists came in friendlly reserve matches or something.

Still, I would say that in the twelve documented matches a return of 6 goals and one assist is good. Lets hope he doesn't have Borussia Dortmund DNA and wants to go back, if we make him a star.

Not quite the 19 year old midfielder I wanted from Borussia Dortmund, and am a little bit worried as he's had a huge injury already in his career, but I hope he'll do well :).

I cant understand the articles/comments COMPLAINING about this signing.

I agree we should have signed another top class player to help replace Fabregas/Nasri but that does'nt change the fact this could be a good signing.

For all his faults there is NOBODY better at signing quality youth than Arsene Wenger.
(Fabregas, Anelka, Toure, Song, Clichy, Van Bronkhurst, Van Persie, Patrick Vieira etc.. .. all signed young, all relatively unknown, all turned out to be TOP CLASS.)

The other thing is that Germany seems to be the place for quality young players at the moment with numerous top Academies churning out talent. Mertesacker and now Eisfeld could help attract more young German players (like Goetze and Reiz) to Arsenal.

Still not convinced, but the Dortmund academy is brilliant, so he can't be too bad. Would much rather have gone for Patrick Herrmann of Monchengladbach though.

How many of those "quality youth" signings have been in the past 5-7 years?

Face it he doesn't have the same record with youth signings

I dont think you understand how this works.

It takes a few years. Some players develop quicker than others though. But...In the last few years he has signed: Oxo-Chamberlain, Vermaelen, Koscielney(?), Sczezney, Ramsey, Walcott, Coquelin, Joel Campbell, Miyaichi, Miguel, Jenkinson etc.. - several of which will still develop into world Class Players, while Vermaelen and Sczezney arguably already are.

(and you could probably include Diarra, Nasri and Flamini on that list).

When it comes to bringing through youth he has'nt lost his touch at all. The main reason we have consistanly stayed in the Champions league whilst selling established players is blatantly because of this. These days though we dont just buy quality players we are also starting to produce them more regularly(Wilshere, Frimpong etc..), which again is down to Mr Wenger.

Like him or not, it's the truth.

Now if only we stopped selling our established players we might actually get somewhere.

Oxo-Chamberlain - Looks positive but too soon to tell and did cost 12M so not really down to Wengers keen eye
Vermaelen & Koscielney - These aren't youth signings! Both were over 23 when we signed them!
Sczezney - Youth player not the same
Ramsey - Shame about the leg break but hardly been a success story
    Walcott - Inconsistent as hell
Coquelin - Too soon to tell
Joel Campbell & Miyaichi - Based on what?
Miguel - Too soon to tell
Jenkinson - Average at best from his early form

Wilshere and Szczesny are class but both were developed by our youth team

You say they take time but how long did it take for Anelka, Veira, Cesc to develop and become big first team players!
