Martin has done well to step up to playing in the first team as cover for the others He has only been given a run in the side when Fonte, Hoover, Jiadi & Seaborne have been injured. Will be interesting to see what happens to him when or IF we sign another CB. Past History shows that Adkins has only ever used him in an emergency to cover injuries. He played Leeds and did well when Jaidi & Seaborne was injured. Then Seaborne played the next few games getting the shirt over Martin prior to his accident. Everyone then thought Martin would play but Hoover walked straight into the side. Putting Martin on the bench Then he has had a run recently due to Fonte's injury. This will be a big time for Martin in the next few games if we sign another player and if he keeps the shirt. Personally think we need another Left footed CB but if a Stoke or Prem calibre comes in can't see them being brought in not to play especially on loan deal or looking how Adkins has acted in the past.
Whilst agreeing that he is not the finished article, Aaron has himself come out and said that he still has a long way to go to hold down a permanent slot. His attitude is excellent and as has been reported in the past by both Jose and Radhi he listens and learns. The experience of playing this run of games will stand him in good stead in the future.
His attitude certainly is excellent! He has had some good interviews since his run in the team saying how lucky he is, how he learns from Jose, Jos etc, How he has a long way to go!
Young protege Jaidi played for the Under 21's today against Reading, Saints won 3 2 see http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2595014,00.html
Always said Martin will play for England one day, I stick by that. You could tell from his first game he had massive potential and he just gets better and better each game (Leicester aside, but they were all **** that day)
^^ Is Possibly the most ridiculous comment i've ever heard. How can you say he'll play for England if, when fit, he was behind Dan Seaborne and an ancient Radhi Jaidi?
It will be interesting to see what happens when everyone is fit and IF we bring in a new loan CB. Martin has always been back up for CB injuries and by his interview he did today knows this. Has anyone heard how Seaborne's first few days have gone
Will be a big test for him again tonight. Like against Leicester it is a Big Step Up. Lets hope he plays well.
To be fair to Aaron that was at the beginning of the season and after very little playtime last season. I would put him behind Jose and Dan behind Jos but not Dan in front of him any more. That gives us two right footed and two left footed players for the CB positions. Aaron is developing as he plays and learning his craft. For such an inexperienced player to struggle against Leicester comes as no surprise when you consider that nobody really covered themselves with glory that night. Harding was poor and a centre back needs the players outside of him to do his job which patently didn't happen.
He had a very good game tonight, don't forget he is not a natural left sided player and was against some class opposition.
I wouldn't agree. Won alot in the air, but was only against a short Kenny Miller who was disappointing. Overall dominant in the air but uncomfortable with ball at his feet and invites pressure onto the back four.
yeah well you wouldn't agree if martin had a blinder scoring 3 hat tricks from his own half looking the other way
What evidence do you base this comment on. If you read what i actually wrote was quite positive and mentioned he was dominant in the air.
Martin didn't have a great game last night, but neither did Fonte in all honesty. Martin was constantly dragged out of position, Cork had a go at him a couple of times as he had to leave his man and drop into the line. It's something that happens far too often with Martin. Also his passing/decision making is terrible. Constantly hitting weak passes or passing to men being closed down, putting the team under pressure. This was noticeable with Fox, he kept selling him short or passing to him when he had a man closing resluting in Fox having to continuously hoof the ball long.
