I liked the "friendly rivalry" at the end. Maybe on here but Cameron is deluded if he thinks the rivalry is friendly!
They want the fans to become owners of the club, sort of what they do in Spain and Portugal.Good idea.
Don't worry chaps I have written to David Cameron about my tax bill and as he has set a precedent I have asked him to arrange for HMRC to not chase me for the money I owe as I would like to continue to spend the money on my very lavish lifestyle, one I hasten to say I can't really afford but what the heck who the hell cares anymore about fiscal responsibility. All I can say is can a man who wants to save that barrel of monkeys be trusted to run the country?
Fair to say that most Saints fans don't want Pompey to cease to exist. We've nearly been there, suffered for it and have been lucky enough to find a superb owner. We like the rivalry, friendly or not. You could even praise Mordaunt for going to the PM for help, although the political motive is obvious. However, if any help, especially in the way of tax relief or support from the govenment, comes to Portsmouth FC I think it will only have the consequence of complicating the issue and prolonging the agony. It seems to me that Pompey need to find a solution that will help the club survive rather than trying to maintain its position in the Championship.
Can someone post a link to the "Cameron urges Darlington to be saved" link please as I seem to have missed it ..........
Portsmouth North is a marginal Tory constituency, so this is just a calculated move to get a few fans on side. Darlington is a Labour stronghold, no help for them! HMRC won't take a blind bit of notice
You weren't looking hard enough. It's on the same site as "Blair steps in to save Chester City FC. Local rivalry with Wrexham must be maintained" among others. Don't start me on this one .....! Let me be clear, I want PFC to survive. Government intervention would be simply wrong.
He could and should have said that HMRC will not be coerced by the government. If there is evidence that they don't get their job right then they should be sorted out by HM's Govt. Otherwise they must be left to do their job and collect tax.
As we seem to be getting political can we urge all people with sense in the Southampton area to join forces and get rid of that idiot Royston Smith! I'm not a Tory but there is a huge difference between pragmatic ones and the idiotic one who is managing to bring disrepute to our proud city, insisting on pay cuts for those earning over £17,500 a year and picking a war of words with Liverpool! There must many SFC fans on here who whilst voting Tory think this man is horrid!! He's worse than a skate!!
I wouldnt mind it just for a season or two...See all results involving portsmouth become void this season... WHU drop 6 points because of it and we'd drop 1 ;D
I too have noticed that we would benefit most from Pompey going out of business, but it would be shameful for this to influence me Seriously though, where do you stop once you set precedents?
Absolutely disgraceful. If a local supermarket shut down then another Shop would move in... If a local Supermarket ran up debts of over 100 Million pounds then they would be liquidated and the owners probably imprisoned for a long time.
Shocking, this is a business that has had millions of pounds go through it's accounts the past 10 years, has paid millionaires, and has cheated the revenue out of money (not to mention chairties). How on earth is this looking after people "who do the right thing", which seems to be the Tory's mantra atm. Women and football dont mix, or politicans and football, so a women politican talking about football is going to be a load of old pony anyawy.
Totally agreed. They haven't paid their taxes, so what the hell is Cameron doing saying he'll help them out, ffs? Unless it was to appease Ms Mordaunt and shut her up. Anyway, the Government is not allowed to interfere with football affairs: Guardian article from last year, so Cameron won't be allowed to stick his nose in. Quite apart from the fact that Pompey haven't paid their taxes.
