Usually park in industrial estate off mount pleasant road. If just me, my dad and my boy we go straight to ground for about 2:55. It's a two hour drive from Northampton so we have sarnies in car. Sometimes for midweek games I'll meet some people from Kenya trip for a beer in the Old Farmhouse and a bite to eat. They serve Doombah which is a good ale, but just the one as driving after game.
It's actually called Doom Bar after a sand bank at the mouth of the River Camel. Made by Sharp's of Rock. One of my favourites.
No offense taken Alex! I'm the wrong side of 30. Neither Dad nor I drink a lot so we don't worry about pubs. I see a few players getting in, mostly fringe players/subs if we get to the ground before 2pm. I guess the main squad will probably get there abour 1ish, just a guess though. I've seen a few of them pose for pics so I think they're quite happy to.
That would be why I don't know it! Sorry I am a Lager lout I guess! All that ale stuff tastes like Cambodian ditch water to me and its flat
South Western Arms, on the way back from the ground. Right next to St Denys train station and about twenty minutes walk from the ground, if you know where you're going.
I must try some of this Cambodian ditch water, sounds good, where can I get it? (Please don't say Cambodia!)
Call me strange but I prefer not to drink before the game as I like to have all my faculties present and correct whilst watching. Afterwards though......well, that's a different thing entirely......
It's not strange its actually the more sensible thing to do, Occasionally I have had to much to drink before the game and it all becomes quite a blur! It happened last time at Reading away this season there was a great atmosphere in the pub before the game and next thing I know I had drunk about 8 beers. Jumped on the bus got to the game had another beer on the way in and don't really remember much after
Give me Ale. I'm also a fan of Doom Bar, cracking pint. Tribute is also a good Cornish ale that some of you may be aware of, much lighter than Doom Bar, and has almost a grapefruit taste going on! Its light and refreshing, probably better in the summer. Dare I say lager fans, give it a go, it may be an easier transition than some of the more biscuity and malty ales. I could quite happily be involved in a real ale thread!
When I go to home games with my Dad, we normally have a pint before the game, anywhere near the ground, but no more, as I don't like to be steaming watching a game, just a little primer. Also the old man's blader doesn't have the holding capacity that it used to! On the way back, we often pop into the Humble Plum, and excellent ale pub in Bitterne, and get my mum to pick us up!
I am going to have another crack at this real ale thing it seems quite popular at the moment albeit with older people. Maybe my tastebuds have altered since the last time I tried.
