Saturday's relegation six pointer could see Mick McCarthy's reign at Wolves come to an end. They've gone 11 games without a win including a Cup exit at home to Brum, and on Tuesday night owner Steve Morgan went into the dressing room to give the team a piece of his mind after their 3-0 defeat by Liverpool. All this could result in a backs-to-the-wall performance from them or, if McCarthy has lost them, another abject performance and he'll pick up his P45. Personally, I'm concerned so many on here seem to be thinking we've just got to turn up to win. I think this could be one of our most difficult games to date, they'll be scrapping for their lives and they've picked up points away from home at better teams than ours during this winless run. Let's hope we can click as we did at Molineux and get the 3 points, anything less would be a disaster...
Will be a very very tough game. But it is a must win. We have just 21 points - and realistically need another 19 from just 15 games. 6 of which are against the top teams in the division. So basically lets say 19 from 9 games. Very worrying! That dropping points at Villa could prove costly. However, what is keeping me sane is the fact that I think the survival target will probably be alot lower than normal this year.
I like McCarthy but I hope that we do cause him to get the sack He won't be out of work long and it will get him out of that khasi Wolverhampton
When we were on our bad run under NW, we were **** and had no chance of winning against better teams. Every game we were always looking for that "backs to the wall / scrap for our lives" performance. Never happened so I expect the same of wolves.
Judo. Dropping points at Villa, give over. That is a point gained in anyone's book. What we need is 10 points from our next 4 to give a bit of breathing space.
If any team needs a boost to spur them on they should read threads like this, other supporters talking about your manager being sacked imagine if it was NW or MH not nice IMO. I know we all have opinions but lets make this the last thread on this subject personally I like Mick McCarthy and he has done a good job.
Judo, your calculations are very dubious indeed. We're 3 clear at the mo so less than a point per game from now on will suffice. We're doing grand. Well on course.
I don't go by this kind of logic. We've already taken points from top teams this year with a worse team than we have now. Liverpool and Arsenal at home are genuinely games we can win.
I see where judo is coming from though; we don't want to be going into those last games against the top teams needing lots of points so the more we can gather against our peer teams before that the less we have to do and the less we poor fans have to suffer. That's the way I see it too.
Hughes and Co will be under no illusions about this game and will certainly not be expecting to just turn up for the points. Their preparation will be meticulous and we, the 12th man, must play our part.
So the owner going into the dressing room and slagging them all off is a good sign? Remember they took seven points from their first three games so 11 points from 19 games is dire and no owner is going to sit back and see the team sink without trace, let alone the fans who have been giving him such stick lately. Saturday really is our biggest match of the season bar none but even I'm getting tired of seeing McCarthy saying after every match "It's not good enough"...
This will be a difficult match. Its incredibly important to both teams. Look at our managers. Hughes and McCarthy. Two uncomprimising men, players and managers. They will both have their teams fired up and ready for battle, and thats exactly what i think this will be, a battle. The question is, who wants it the most?
As much as I think the Wolvs game will be a tough game, they are without Karl Henry, and Jamie O'Hara. They do have a decent keeper in Hennessly and a couple of uncompromising defenders but I have a feeling that Cisse will end up with a couple of goals to his name. MH has purchased players with something to prove and for me it is a home win
long johns and thick long sleeve thermal vest + multiple layers. don't think i would make a very good newcastle fan!!
I know our position doesn't look great but i do feel that a win tomorrow and then we will only need 4 more victories from the remaining 14 games. In which im sure we will beat one of the big teams. We will be fine , i am confident now . 6 points clear of bottom 3 by saturday night.
Funny you should say that. I, too, feel that we will beat just one of the big boys before season's end. Arsenal at home might be a good bet?? Maybe even Liverpool.
