Hi All Any chance with a little help with how we pronunce some of our players names. When ever talking with fellow Rangers supporters there is always someone calling a player differently to someone else and i dont mean when they are Effing and Jeffing So using the English langauage would some of you like to tell me how the following should be said? Traore Taarabt Diakite Taiwo Onuoha Cerny thank you
Traorey Tarabt Tywoo Deeaketay Cherny Onoower and why isnt phonetic spelt like it sounds? shood be fonetik
Sure, Traore Tra as in slang for goodbye Taraa and ore as in part of a rowing boat Taarabt Taar as in the black sticky stuff abt as in suitable DiaKite Dia as in Tia (Maria) Kite as in lets go fly one Onuoha On as in ON yer bike uo as in ohh bother ha as hahahahahaha funny isn't it Cerny Cer as in certainly and ny as in I have a scab on my knee Hope this helps
I thought it was .... Traore - tray or ay Taarabt - tah rabt (not tar abt) Diakite - dear key tay Taiwo - tie wooo Onuoha - on oo oh a Cerny - chur knee Cisse - see say Zamora - zam aura Hughes - hews others: Terry - ray cyst
Diakité - Jackitay. Di... was used by the French to transliterate West African names, the British used J instead. So Diallo became Jallow. Diawara became Juwara and so on. 100% certain on this, have lived in West Africa where both spellings were used.
I heard someone else say this too. Wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being 'Jackie' - much like Patrick Agyeman ended up as 'Dave'!
Well all the posts have educated me (thank u)and i will now practise them out on my friends and SHOW OFF
Traore = TRA OR RAY Taarabt = TA' RAT (silent B) Diakite = as pointed out, JA KI TAY Taiwo = TIE WOO Onuoha = ONOO-A Cerny = CHAIR NI
I'm happy we have got all of these right now except for Taiwo. Why would the 2nd syllable be 'woo' as everyone seems to think? Surely 'tay woe' is more likely?
