Missed the second half, had go out, saw and chop some logs for a fire tonight.

Just got back in time to hear the bloody equaliser. How relieved was I when he said off-side. Sounds like it could have been 5-3 to Tranmere but who cares. 3 points for us and Chesterfield and Yeovil lost. Hopefully Charlton will beat Rochdale (when will they play that game?). Not sure what I want the Scun-thorpe result to be. If either team lose we could remain out of the bottom 4 but Scun-thorp have played 1 less and a draw, although pushing us back into the bottom 4, would bring them both level on points with us.

Thats a big 3 points. We worked hard and had an awful lot of luck, Tranmere threw absolutely everything at us in the second half but we somehow clung on for a morale boosting win. It was bloody freezing too!

Freakin freezing, we rode our luck but so did they at times and we got the result. Ainsworth always seems more effective if he starts. Harper did o.k but looked a little short of first team football but that will come. Whichelow scored on his debut.. job done. We still seem to drift out of the game for long periods and unless we start bossing the whole game we will struggle with better opposition, but i aint complaining well done lads

Makes a lot of difference when you have a real captain on the pitch.

Very good first half performance. Well outplayed in the second half, and yes we had some luck, but all eleven stuck at it and earned the luck. For once Waddock's substitutions made sense. Took Ainsworth off when he was tiring, and replacing Whichelow with Lewis allowed Beavon to cause more problems to them on his own.
I was a bit confused when I saw the team, with three left footers at the back, but for the most part Laing was fine at right back. He just needs to be careful not to try to do too much with the ball.
I also think Harper could be a good signing. The other midfield players need to have the confidence to move into space, because he will pass the ball to them.

Yep agree 100% Ron, for the team as a whole having a leaders like that among them is massive and Ainsworths individual performance seems better being there at the get go.

fingers only just unfrozen, totally frozen today!!! however, it was worth it just to see the win today. gaz should have got MOTM in my opinion, fantastic in the first half and made such a difference to have him on the pitch as a captain. also think beaver and winchlow have a really good partnership. we battled hard against everything tranmere threw at us and probably deserved the win in the end

plus, dont think ive ever been happier to see an offside flag!

Time for some brutal facts boys. 1) Ainsworth may be pushing 74 but no other WWFC player would have chased the ball like he did to set up our first goal. 2) Laing, despite a dodgy first 20 minutes, looked far better at right back than Foster. 3) Winfield and Johnson together at CB concede far less than if only one of the two are playing. 4) Strevens is not a left midfielder. Although having said that he worked his bollocks off today. 5) Bull had a bit of a mare. 6) At least one of the two cleared off the line were over it. 7) (controversial) Bloomfield is reminiscent of a headless chicken in midfield. 8) we got three points so who gives a flying f**k??

Agree with a lot of what you're saying, particularly about the 3 points as that is the important bit in the end.

I thought Bull was slow to react for their goal, he didn't appear to have his view blocked and wasn't too far off his line. It was struck well but i think he should have saved it. Don't remember him doing much else wrong though?

Headless chicken sums up Bloomfield. He works so hard which often masks the quality he actually brings. He really should have scored at the end too. Strevens put in a massive shift yesterday aswell and in my opinion looked a better player technically than Bloomfield.

I've only seen the highlights once, but it appeared to me that the 2 big decisions in the second half were right. I don't think either shot crossed the line and the offside right at the end was correct. Would like to see a better angle on them to be sure though.

On another note, it was interesting to see a couple of 'Parry Out' banners go up in the away end as soon as we scored the second goal, but then disappear when they were dominating the second half. Seemed a little fickle, but I don't think we're too many bad performances away from doing the same with Waddock.

the offside at the end looked offside by the highlights, but the ball over the line was inconclusive. strevs is a poor (at best) winger, but he will put in effort and track back, which is one thing mcnamee and grant wont always so

I noticed the "parry out" banners as well, what mainly surprised me was that they were only taken out when we got the goals, i was expecting to see them before and after the game if they were serious about it.

one other controvasy - was it a penalty? there was one incident in the second half where the tranmere player cut inside from the wing and was push/pulled back/tripped (i catn remember!)...at the time, i thought it was a penalty and so did thier fans. thoughts?

Great result! No comments on here from the 'Waddock Out' boys then??! I wonder why. Who knows, another win and the fickle amongst us will be clamouring for Wadds to run for Mayor of London. Lets put this to bed once and for all shall we - changing the manager now, with no money, no transfer window and near the bottom would be a DISASTER. Lets get behind Gary and the boys and stop harping on about whats wrong. COME ON YOU BLOOS!!

:emoticon-0148-yes:Fair play Rocky, I did hear we were lucky, especially in the 2nd half. Maybe the long term future isnt Gary Waddock but I simply dont see who we could get now who would be better. History shows that a change in manager at this stage in the season for a team that is struggling is unsettling and more often than not will lead to relegation. I think we need to let Wadds have a go at getting us out of this.

Really enjoying having the discussion though, its good that so many care about our great club

devon i really hope he does keep us up and if he does then the dilemma starts, would we trust him to get some better players in for next season, based on his poor transfer dealings this season i think most of us would answer no. i have backed waddock all the way up until now but some of his signings have been baffling and his tactics even worse, but once again thats my opinion mate, others on here may say different ,but thats the beauty of this site rather than the gas room ,we can agree to disagree without offending anyone.
