I have just calmed down sufficiently from last night's MOTD when a number of incidents in yesterday's games received the wisdom of Shearer including the Cisse sending off. Interesting that the opinion of the commentator and Alan Shearer were identical and equally clear. No matter what had been or could have been done to him, Cisse's reaction was wrong and he deserved to be sent off. The exact opposite of the ex-footballers on Final Score after it had happened and Trevor Francis commentating for Sky. We all know what Shearer would have done. He would have got up, dusted himself off and put the defender out of the game later in an incident off the ball when the cameras were focusing elsewhere. Do tell me I am wrong about that.

Shearer then went on to lose all respect by his comments about Johnson's dive during the City v Fulham game. "It was a clear penalty." he said. Johnson was entitled to stick his leg out at an angle in order to make sure there was contact. Both Shearer and Johnson should be penalised financially, and in Johnson's case he should have a charge of bringing the game into disrepute chucked his way. Don't get me wrong, diving and simulation go on all the time and we are all guilty of cheering when it works in our team's favour. However the line has to be drawn somewhere. No forward is entitled to stick his leg out in order to make contact deliberately with a defender who happens to be nearby. Pundits need to stand up and be counted for applauding players who conduct themselves honestly and not actively condone what is disgraceful behaviour.

Shearer hasnt got a clue, hes been embarrassing for a long time, Im sure hed be saying diving needs to be kicked out of the game if Johnson was a foreigner.

Contact initiated by the attacked doesnt mean its a pen, it never has.

It's money for old rope for the likes of Shearer, Hansen, Lawrenson et al. I read yesterday that we (by virtue of the BBC licence fee) pay Hansen £1M per annum for the 'work' that he puts in on MOTD. There was an interesting contrast drawn between him and Stephen Hester, the CEO of RBS.

Both are technically public servants in that each is effectively paid out of the public purse. Yet Hester, who has been made responsible for rescuing a national bank which, in turn has had to be propped up with a considerable wodge of taxpayers' moolah, is pilloried for being awarded nearly £1M in share options/bonuses. Hester is working nearly 24/7 and has the livelihood of thousands of employees and customers to be concerned about. Hansen (and Shearer), on the other hand, has to watch football matches, don an attractive cardie and use the phrase "the defending was diabolical" between edited highlights.

And we're disgusted with Hester's bonus?

I agree with everything you write there Yorkshire, good post.

If that's true Uber then that is just shocking! £1 mill a year for Hansen is more than many managers in the Premier League earn each year. A pundit that knows less about football than the ones he's meant to pass judgement on is laughable.
And put in the context you do makes it even more nauseating.

    A quick Google.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/a...C-need-radical-surgery.html?ito=feeds-newsxml

"Poor old Alan Hansen. Another victim of the BBC’s Saturday night slaughter. First Brucie has to take a pay cut, and now the gravel-voiced scourge of slack defending has to sacrifice a third of his income, in the name of austerity.

He’ll still have a million a year to scrape by on, which is probably rather more, even allowing for inflation, than he pulled down in the days when he used to get paid for actually playing football.

He has a good act, it has to be said. Alan looks serious, talks in a doomy way about the failures of players who feature in unflattering replays, and sits next to the clowny one – that’s Mark Lawrenson.

Then we have Alan Shearer, who seems a bit embarrassed to be there at all, and that Lineker bloke. They’re all taking pay cuts."
