Got one today in Newcastle along with a hearty 'Leeds Leeds Leeds'; makes me really proud to see other Leeds fans outside the City and giving the Salute. Also enjoyed giving it to a bus-load of Leeds fans on the way to the Barnsley away game last season and getting about 50 in return! When was the last/best time you gave it?
By the way, is it Leeds etiquette not to salute people within the boundaries of the City of Leeds, or even Yorkshire? I've never done it as it would seem a bit weird if I did it and got a world-weary frown in return. I tend to reserve my saluting powers for when I'm outside God's Own County where you don't expect everyone to bleed yellow, white and blue.
Got one in the middle of Glasgow from a guy who got out of a taxi to do it! Confused the **** out of a bunch of Celtic across the road
The best one for me had to be in Cyprus a couple of years ago. It was a Saturday afternoon and I was on my way to watch the footy scores in a bar, and was wearing my Leeds top. Then a car stopped at the traffic lights and the driver gave the salute and as he drove off he there was the Leeds badge car sticker on his rear window. Must have lived there too, as his number plate was one of theirs. Quality.
Last time I did it was a few months ago in a shopping centre in australia, got it back as well. You'd be amazed how many leeds fans are here
My 11 year old lad gave the salute to a load of leeds fans in a bar we were walking past in spain, one of them shouted leeds, leeds, leeds, to him as he was wearing his whites top, so he turned round and gave them the famous salute. they all stood up and gave him it back. makes you proud.
November in Cape Town watching South Africa v Australia cricket, saw a local with a Leeds shirt, gave him the salute and he was chuffed to bits. There were a few Scum and Arsenal shirts around and they all looked on in confusion, not a ****ing clue what it meant. I started singing MOT and the Leeds shirt joined in, then I shouted at the red shirts to sing some of their club songs and they came up empty. Leeds do have the best supporters in the world - FACT!
Cheers Elland. So not the Straight arm back & forwards in front of the chest followd by the words Leeds Leeds Leeds.
Boggers, I think you're doing it right! The one elland describes is how people do it during MOT, but not as a greeting.
A little bit wrong, yes... Now that serial saluter Glyn Snodin has left us, do we have any hope that the players will give the Salute after scoring again? I know it's a minor thing, but it really brightens me up when I see one of our players giving the arm-pump - means a lot more than any badge-kissing to me.
