I had a beer with a Geordie last night who suggested that appointing Kevin Keegan as the next Leeds manager might not be a bad thing.

Okay, I know how much the Toon revere King Kevin, but he made an interesting argument. The first, and probably most important point considering where Leeds are in the table and stage of the season, is that Keegan virtually guarantees a lift in attitude and with that positivity momentum on the field which can carry Leeds into the promotion frame and keep them there. Second point was that Keegan would attract quality players to the club and that would force Bates to back him in the transfer market.

Other things mentioned were his track record of getting promotion, filling the stadium, etc. All very interesting, and obviously the question to be asked is does Keegan even want the job? I guess the point he was making was is it time for Bates to make a marquee appointment? Will Bates go for that "star" signing? If so, will it be right for Leeds to do this?

Been away from club management too long. Similar to Strachan. Probably happier on the golf course and/or doing the media round.

Keegan !!! Please tell us you were pissed when you posted. I can understand you thinking a geordie might have a good idea when you're pissed but there's no excuse if you're sober.

Haha...as I said stonkin, these were points the Geordie lad made based on his experiences of Keegan at their club, thought I'd put it out there for a bit of debate

Kevin Keegan would be a great choice for a couple of years. He has always come accross as a honest wear your heart on your sleeve bloke.

Plus. The chance to choke at winning anything would make a nice change from where we are now.

However Ken Bates does'nt want an honest "speak your mind" manager, as that would not fit the current censorship at Ellland Road....

I'd prefer to win 2-0 and 2-1 every game rather 8-7 and 9-8
