Maynard is reportedly saying this to the press today... * My family were getting food and coke bottles thrown at them, people were shouting abuse.(at Coventry apparently): * Some others hung 'Judas' banners up. That's not really on.. * And for new dad Maynard, the move to London comes with an added bonus. * I've got a five month baby boy (Camden) now' he said. "And if he can't be Northern then I'd rather he grows up with a cockney accent than a Bristolian one. This has been put up on OTIB and if the article is accurate it explains a lot of his attitude and performances recently. * http://www.otib.co.uk/index.php?/topic/143483-mynard-in-todays-football-league-paper/
He names his child Camden then criticizes the Bristolian accent !! Priceless ! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Camden_Town_9.jpg
tvh i think his last comment was a bit tongue and cheek, his girlfriends from here so he wont be upsetting her and one half of the family
THEN YOUR LUCKY !!! i ****ing hate my accent, you dont hear it when you talk but just recorded yourself.....dear god
From Leeds but lived in Bristol for over a year a decade ago. The local accent isn't too bad, quickly got used to it after a little while.
I grew up in Chepstow so had a welsh twang, lived in Gloucester for a few years, then Bristol. **** me the Welsh don't understand me, Bristolions thing I'm from Gloucester, Gloucester thing I'm from Bristol And you complain about one accent Shiny I'm a ****ing Mongol!!
..it just gets worse... * Nicky Maynard has been left disappointed by the reaction of some Bristol City supporters to his recent exit.. * He makes no apologies for having taken a decision he believes will benefit his career.. * I'm not going to spit my dummy out. I always had a good relationship with the fans and I do regret how things ended. * The fans were great to me during my time with the club - it's just a blow it came to that at the end. * Every player wants to play at the highest level he can and I'm no different. * Of course, I'd have loved to have done it with Bristol City, but that did not work out. * I enjoyed my time at City, but the chance to join a massive club like West Ham, who are destined for the Premier League, was just too good to turn down. Fair enough for him..... http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/7488879/
Well it certainly distracts the West Ham fans from the fact that he was absolutely ****in shocking for his last 6 months here anyway. Nicky... I don't care you didn't sign a contract.... I don't care you wanted to play Prem football and that you may even get an occasional run out with West Ham! I do care though that you acted like a spoilt 6 year old for your last 2 months, at least, here. I've never even thought you're all that myself.
i see he didnt get game time vs millwall. i think he wont that much at all and wont be involved in the prem that much either. its a cheap way getting to the prem sitting on a bench doing sod all.
Boys be proud,Bristol and our accent are part of what you are. As is cockneys, mans, scoucers, etc. I was at Coventry and he was booed, but I dont remember seeing anything chucked at his family. I would have thought his family would have sat with the clubs representatives elsewhere in the ground. NM you mugged the club, get on with your life at WHU enjoy your bench warming. Little fish in a big pond there sir.
I still don't understand all the vitriol against Maynard FFS As an example if you are working for £100 a week as a junior person, but you know you can get £500 for doing the same job elsewhere, but with better financial security, prospects of plying your trade at the highest level and raising your profile to boot, are you really gonna stick your head in the sand and stick with the £100 a week ? In the same situation I would have done exactly the same and the only ones to blame for this whole unpleasant and unprofessional situation are the senior management at Bristol City FC for being ****ing stupid. Again.
Angel, well said mate, anyone with any sense would have done what Nicky Maynard did!!! I have no problem at all with him.
That doesn't excuse throwing your toys out once you've left and slagging the local accent. Spoilt brat I reckon.
There's nothing wrong with the Bristolian accent - our dialect is one of the richest and most unique in the English language. No-one else appends an 'L' after an 'A' and this goes back at least a thousand years. Our pronunciation is unique, even amongst other West Country accents and we should be proud of that uniqueness. I went to Bristol Grammar School where the local accent was kind of discouraged, but I bloody well made sure that I retained mine. Few people, unless you're blessed with the velvety-smooth tones of James Mason or Rex Harrison, like to hear themselves recorded, but that's not to say that the Bristolian accent is crap. I mean, in how many other cities can you buy T-shirts celebrating the local accent like the ones you can buy down St Nick's Market - 'Cheers Drive', 'Gert Lush', 'Pick ee out the stingers' etc! In a world where half of the country sounds like they keep whippets and wear flat caps and the other half affect that awful nasally Estuarine twang, we should be proud of our roots, our city and our accent. Sumus Bristolienses, moy babber!
