    WAKE UP PEOPLE!

Seriously, where has everybody gone? Anyway, with all the talk about outsiders like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Bobby Zamora and Danny Welbeck in contention for Euro 2012, I was thinking...is Guthrie worth a shout?

He's almost been as good as Cabaye this season, who has been absolutely sensational. I know he wouldn't start in a first choice Toon XI, but he'd be a fantastic back-up for England, I'd say.

Although, if somebody touted Guthrie for England this time last year, we'd be on the floor rolling (even though I've always thought he was decent). Perhaps he's just flourishing under Pardew's brilliant man-management, but is Guthrie worth a shout?

He is good, but there are a lot of centre midfielders better than him in fairness

He ought to be, but he's got no chance with Capello.

I really don't see why not, he has performed brilliantly the whole season.

I can't really think of an English CM who is playing better than Danny G at the minute....anybody?

If the squad was really picked on form like Capello said it would be then he'd have as much of a shout as anyone.

But you could say the same for Danny Simpson and Ryan Taylor in my opinion. Stevie Taylor would have been a shoe-in for replacing John Terry or Rio Ferdinand too had he not been injured.

The England team has been crying out for a total revamp of the squad for ages, with fresh and hungry players brought in but Fabio's as gutless as his predecessors.

Thing is, I'm not complaining. Would much rather our boys weren't picked for England, stayed fit and focused on us instead.
Club football is more important than international duty in the eyes of the so-called top English 'Champions League' players and it's sadly the same for me...

We have a number of English players who are playing well (hence us being 5th). If they were teenagers everyone would be looking at them but the fact they're mostly in their young-to-mid 20's means people have already looked at them and judged them. Unless Liverpool decide to buy Guthrie back for £15m+ then he wont get anywhere near an England squad, I don't mind that to be honest.

I don't know how many of you follow or are in to rugby union.... But they have had enough of underperformers living off the past and have had a complete overhaul of the squad. After the Euros (it wont happen before) i would love to see something simular in football... It has been needed for too long

Oh yeah I almost forgot – all of our English players have little to no chance of being selected for England.

Because as far as Postman Pat is concerned, SJP may as well be in Scotland...

Also don't forget he'll be having to fight for his place against Dreamboat and the greatest footballer on Earth (I have been told to say I was not forced to say that).

Honestly believe after what ive seen this season he could do a good job in midfield for Man Utd.

thought he was terrible before and wanted him to leave but this season he has been outstanding

Done well, but not convinced on this one, also never thought he's got the credit he deserves until this season.

He's exactly the type of player England need, which is exactly why Postman Twat won't pick him.

Not for me. Not because Guthrie has not done well, he has. Indeed he was my man of the match yesterday along with Krul. I wanted him offloaded prior to this season because he has been hugely disappointing for someone with his ability. He never got fit enough to himself justice. He would give away daft free kicks in dangerous positions because he didn't want to chase people, he'd be sloppy with his passing, and he'd go missing for 20 minutes at a time. He's come back this year knowing his contract is about to run down, and the chops have gone and he looks a whole lot better for it. Cabaye started like a train and so he was always gonna struggle to get in, but as Cabaye's form has tailed off, Guthrie has been there ready waiting. Has had very few oppportunities to play with Cheik too which would suit him better.

But with England I just think there are better options. England need to be looking to take the likes of Gerrard, Wiltshire, Parker, Rodwell, Milner as their central options. Maybe Cleverley if he can get fit. I like Danny but I can't put him at the level of our first choice guys Wiltshire/Gerrard/Parker. Then he is competing with the likes of the other 3 who are ahead for me. I don't like Barry but he has also got himself fitter this year and looks less of a chugger. It pains me to say but he is having an outstnading season for City and will probably be close to selection as a result. It's funny because people will probably jump on Capello (our national pass time) for picking Barry but yet everyone complains about not picking form players. Like it or not Barry is the form man.

The same Parker who has been Englands best performer and one of the PL's player of the season? Give over.

The same Parker who looks lost every time he plays for England and gives the ball away with regularity but the Fleet Street mob have brainwashed everyone into think he's anything more than a just drama queen and a clogger?

Watching different games to me. Fleet streets singing or otherwise, he has been excellent. To be honest though Stevie I think you're biased and I doubt it would matter how Parker played. You've made it clear on several occasions you don't rate Parker and didn't when he was with us. That's fair enough but for me if you can't see how well the lad is playing, you're allowing your dislike of him to cloud your judgement. There is no debate for me, Parker is in outstanding form, him, Friedel and Adebayor have transformed Spurs into title challengers. Enough said.
