Pony indeed, but I still believe Barton has something to offer, whereas SWP is showing us all he has. How the **** we get the Barton of the last couple of seasons at Newcastle is the mystery. I am hoping having a few better players around him will help....

Not quite sure how we get anything out of Barton, bearing in mind that he didnt want to join us in the first place?!!

Should have let him rot at Newcastle as he has done nothing of note for us.

I guess it was a calculated gamble by the board and NW, but i'm afraid it didnt pay off.

Funny how no other clubs were in for him at the same time eh?

Have disagree something i read from this thread. Firstly i have say that no matter how disappointing SWP have been to us this season ,its a fact that from his assist we have scored three of our four latest goals. Smiths 3-1 against Wigan ,Cisses 1-0 aganst Newcastle and Zamora's 1-0 against Wolves. IMHO it's relevant if he had a little luck with his assist he laid out those goals and thats that. So he can't be all bad but i admit he has lot to improve. Then Joey Barton. He has not been as good we expect him to be thats clear. He was sent off because he lost his temper thats true also. He is really stupid and boring with his obsession of twitter ,thats true also. He has trouble to find his own players with ball for time to time ,ok too. But sometimes i wonder if the global warming and all the financial catastrpophes in europe have also been Bartons fault. I think they are Bartons fault if you believe some of our posters here. FFs get off his back he's still our only midfield player to score more than one goal this season. Taarabt did play quite good match on saturday and great last fifteen minutes . But did you see him scoring? Neither did i..... and before he does score or at least assist a goal for us i dont think he is any better than SWP or Barton.

Barton saved us from 1-4 to Wolves. There were 2 clear occasions when he picked up balls rolling around about 5 meters from our goal and cooly cleared them, with all the rest in apparent panic, and Paddy glued to his line as normal. Didn't see his run stats against Wolves but he had covered more ground than annyone on the park 1st half Villa, and looked to me like he did against Wolves. He is our only box to box midfield player - his passing isn't good enough but he's putting in a shift. Note he also had a good shot saved in the last 10 minutes - he was still getting forward then..

I'm no fan of Barton - I wanted MH to get get rid of him January after his tweetins about Neil - think MH and others will get the same one day. But both Barton and Ale both needed replacing by quality CM, which MH failed to do -we have only a young guy with no PL experience to come, and 2 crocks in Derry and Buz to help Barton out. So though I don't like him Barton, he is the best we got, so we have to live with him til May, and hope he keeps his tweets off the subject of football, and gets no more red cards. Better he does hold himself a bit in check than get suspended again. We can ill afford to lose him.

Spot on mate. I could not care less about Bartons twitter messages and why would i? He is a footballer who is a captain in my favourite club and if he dont do anything criminal outside the club its relevant......
