I have no issue with SL regards his take over of Bristol Rugby.

According to his Radio Bristol statement he says they will stay at the mem.

Surely having the income through Ashton Gate and then Ashton Vale is the way to go.
Just makes sence to have income from both streams through the ground, not to mention bigger crowds.

Now what would happen if he decided to buy the gas as well,I don't think he can own two football clubs at once.

I just hope he is not loosing faith regards Bristol City what with the ridiculous couple of nimbys causing problems.

Onward and up ward Steve L a credit to Bristol you are sir.

Funny how he has a friendship with Nick Higgs and both were photographed holding up a Rovers flag. Perhaps he's decided that 30 million pound spent on a team that could drop into league 1 is enough and he wants to start a new venture.

SL was a Blue in his younger days so maybe he has lost faith after wasting so much cash and sees a more solid investment as the new Rovers stadium is pretty much a cert.

I think the ownership of the egg chasers, despite his insistance of remaining at the Mem, is a longer term plan to add weight to the Vale development argument.

'My main concern with Bristol City – and now with Bristol Rugby – is to make sure those clubs survive within their means and have financial stability for future generations."

Part of Lansdown's evolution for the rugby club will see them remain at the Memorial Stadium, which they rent from Bristol Rovers, with the lease having just been renewed for next season. But he has not ruled out the possibility of bringing both of his sporting interests together under one roof at Ashton Gate – or, indeed Ashton Vale, should the new stadium get the go-ahead – in the future.

"The club isn't moving to Ashton Gate," he said. "The rugby club will be playing at the Memorial Stadium and the lease has just been renewed for next season. People will ask and I'm not going to say it won't happen, but I'm also not going to say it will."'

Can't see any problems there, his main concerns are Bristol City and Bristol Rugby,he has plans, maybe in the future to play rugby at the gate or even Ashton Vale but next year they stay at the minimal because contracts have been signed, sounds fair,a real Bristol City man...:emoticon-0103-cool:

Non starter, steve is a lifelong true BCFC supporter and has expended a great deal of time and money reshaping the clubs finances and image.

It makes great business sense for the club and will allow him to restructure providing the stability it requires.

As for Bristol Rugby staying at the mem interesting comment suggest that is only a short term view as a major shareholder in both BCFC and now the rugby club it would make complete financial sense housing them under the same roof improving long term revenues, facilities etc and help with the viability of the move to the new stadium especially if City drop to league 1.<party>

Who is going to argue with his upcoming suggestions now?

    Good luck to him

I've got it!!! i think the master plan is that SL buys the Memorial ground off Rovers which will allow Rovers to move to the UWE with a new stadium debt free.

SL will then sale Trashton to Sainsbury's to finance redevelopment of the Memorial ground and City can then rent from Bristol Rugby club and SL gets back his millions. Clever f**ker that Lansdowne:biggrin::biggrin:

Whatever happens, it's good news for the egg chasers. They should be playing Premiership rugby next season.

I like to take the mick out of Lansdown, purely because of his less than successful association with 82, but fair play to him - he is the only very wealthy Bristolian who has a genuine desire to see our city punch its weight at the sporting level. I wish there were more of him.

Yes, he is planning a way to get Bristol its rugby stadium back in its true ownership. He was very vocal about the lack of support from the gas side when we we needed local support for Ashton Vale.

He doesn't like the gas and has said so! :emoticon-0172-mooni:emoticon-0172-mooni

I'll also bet you cant find a picture of him holding a Rovers flag with Nick Higgs, he has publicly stated he has never liked them

the locals at ashton vale will love this! they are not happy that every other week it will be busy in their area when city are at home. just how peeved off will they be when the stadium be used every week when the rugby moves in.

me thinks this should not of been announced by him/bristol rugby as could throw a spanner in their stadium plans as gives more ammo to the locals. should of waited until city have the stadium then announce bristol rugby is moving in and then the locals got no say.

i know he hasnt said the rugby will move in with city but financially speaking it would be better for him to have it all under 1 roof. end of next season when bristol lease ends, i bet bristol will be moving south of the river.

    statement from higgs....

Chairman Nick Higgs has confirmed that the takeover of Bristol Rugby Club by Steve Lansdown will not have any material impact on Bristol Rovers and their plans for a new stadium. Bristol Rugby Club are contracted to play at the Memorial Stadium next season, and Nick Higgs sees no reason why the relationship between Rovers and the Rugby Club should not continue.

    he said:-

"I had a call from Chris Booy last night explaining the situation to me. This is great news for the Rugby Club, as the extra backing should help them reach their goal of returning to the Premiership. We have a fantastic relationship with the Rugby Club, and they have already signed a licence to play at the Memorial Ground for next season, and I see no reason why that cannot continue into the new stadium. Bristol Rugby Club have been, and continue to be, very supportive of our new stadium project. The new stadium has been designed to international standards for both Football and Rugby, so that it is able to host games of the highest standard. This news will have no material impact on our future plans since the Rugby Club have no financial involvement in the new stadium project. However should the Rugby Club decide not to join us at the new UWE Stadium the project will go on regardless."

Quite correct but Steve Lansdown owns Bristol City(holdings) ltd,Bristol Rugby and Bristol City FC,so he pays himself rent and owes the debt to himself,"gasheads" pay Geoff Dunford (Memorial Stadium Company) rent, owe their internal debt to the directors and external debt to god knows who,so you have no assets, multiple debts and pay rent to the stadium owner..

So it's not really like City.
