Why are we paying him £15k a week if he got the sack and we now have a new manager?

If he is sacked then it is par for the course that he'd request the remainder of his contract be paid up in full, loads of other managers have made the same claims when given the elbow.

Warnock claimed that he was on good terms with TF even after being sacked so maybe the two of them can work out a deal that is best for the club but at the same time a fair settlement for the manager who got us into the Premiership in the first place. No love lost for Warnock but I don't begrudge him a decent pay off.

Watford were not going to agree on this, they may be trying to save a few quid on Neil's contract, yet they waste thousands on paying Vine, Borrowdale Agyman players that are miles away from playing for the Rs, lets pay someone what he's worth instead of the rest of the dross.

They've tried to pay Vine off and he won't go. If they could pay off any of the many players who will never play then I'm sure they would as they did with Rowlands. Agyemang and the others wouldn't make anything like what they do here if they were playing at their real level so it would take virtually 100% of their contract's worth to offload them. With Warnock, he'll be wanted by plenty of clubs at a wage equal to or very close to what he was on with us. As much as we all loved and respected him, he's an ex-employee of the club and the club should do what's in their best interests.

Cheers for the reasoned argument, thougt it was quite interesting on both sides till now. My point was he has been paid, he didn't do it for nothing and that was the contract he signed so was being paid appropriately. The bit he hasn't earned is what he has not worked for. I haven't earned next months cash yet because I haven't worked it. Yet we sit here having a discussion without knowing the full facts of what went on, hence we can all only guess. From my DIRECT knowledge I know there were problems which is why I can understand the boards position and don't think he deserves a full pay off. In fact if you read my earlier post I suggested a halfway £500,000. Hardly unreasonable when he can go and top it up immediately with another job!

P.S I'm extremely ****ing sorry, my ****ing view doesn't ****ing match yours.

I wonder if the people who are so eager to get rid of £1m would do the same if it was their own money or if he was in any position apart from a football manager?

Its standard practice to do what we are doing now both with players and managers. Rowlands probably accepted a reduced amount to go to Colchester while Vine is happy to rot and get the full amount.
Now warnock has a choice, retire on the £1m or accept half the amount and go to Leeds. Neither means any hardship to him.

If he hadn't of ****ed it up he would still be in a job, I've got a lifelong contract in my job but if I was sacked I'd get nothing. Also the chances of me getting another job on the same or better terms would be next to zero.

I really don't think we should be worrying whether a millionaire is gonna get another million or not. We're in the biggest recession/depression since the thirties! I don't think Mr Warnock will go hungry (legend and all that he is).

Its strange that some seem to begrudge paying a man £1 mill, a man who has earnt the club a potential £60 mill when we could have got relegated, yet no one apart from me complains about our captain earning £80K a week, a man who has yet to perform like a captain and just seems content on sprouting his opinion on tweeter and not earning an £80 quid a week wage let alone £80 grand

I'd say it's more strange if people don't understand the difference between them. Warnock is an ex-manager who is owed a monthly wage as the club decided he wasn't wanted any more. If he wants 18 months' money up front it's illogical to give him the whole lot. It just doesn't make business sense not to negotiate at all. Barton (a Warnock signing) is a current employee of the club so the club has no choice but pay him. In theory they could sack him/put him on gardening leave as they did with Warnock and try and negotiate a payoff but we don't have better midfielders and it would cost a fortune.

This debate totally shows why other clubs and supporters consider us a small, crappy club....
    FFS
NW earnt the club more in his tenure than any other manager in the last 10 yeears (sky money) he took the club out of darkness and ****e and put us in the premier league, where NO OTHER manager could or would.

We get 60 mill odd from sky if we get relegated and we're complaining about a man who:
not 12 months ago was a legend,
best thing to ever happen to our club,
signed Tarbs (not that im a fan)the best footballer we've had for 13 years
suporters claimed he should have a statue or stand named after him
people were willing to kill fellow supporters for, at the sound of his sacking........

I didnt see chelsea baulk at gullits or any other managers pay offs..In fact I've never heard of another club going through ****e like this....

FFS...grow up...If it wasnt for NW you lot would be going to brighton, millwall, and all the other ****e grounds you've (we've) been going to for the last 15 years......

Now i'm not his greatest fan, BUT; Show some appreciation for what he has done and pay the man his money and let him leave with his head held high ....some people, really....!!

    I'm off for a beer or 20!!

What I don't get about all this is this......

When a team is having talks with a new player / manager.
First off, they are given the go ahead by the parent club.
Then the buying club, enter negotiations and personal terms.
This sometimes takes the best part of a day or so, certainly many hours.
What do they discuss in all this time?

Surely the player/manager has an agent who acts on behalf of his client
and has a basic list of criteria that reflects the clients wishes.
Upon this lists would be salary, image rights, get out clauses, severence deals,
promotion bonuses, relegation contingences and the like.

i.e there are only a finite list of possible outcomes that must surely all be covered.
Or maybe i'm just really naive.

This. But obviously we should pay him only what he is due under his contract.
