On a scale of 0-49000000 how many pounds will the Huns be held liable to the tax man for? I am going to guess 49 000 000. I was toying with the notion of 26 000 000......but I settled on 49 000 000. Forty- nine million......that is some amount ain't it?
Would '49,000,000' constitute a pound of flesh (ie something which is owed that is ruthlessly required to be paid back)? Those bad, horrible, old HMRC Shylocks "The pound of flesh which we demand of theese Rangeres is deerely bought, 'tis oors, and we will haue it".
forty nine million pounds is some amount of flesh. Unlike Shylock, I think some blood shall be spilt.
Yep, but if that's what's decreed they owe then slap it up them! (Think you're right though....some blood may be spilt - not least by their poor demented fans jumping off the nearest clifftops.)
If they are found to owe £49million (or whatever amount) what's to stop them striking a deal to pay a % of that like so many other large companies in the UK have done so over the years?
It was stated in court papers lodged during the Martin Bain hearing that Rangers could afford to pay up to £15m if they're found guilty. If it's more than that the the club will fold. That was several months ago though and it would seem unlikely that they could even afford that now. What also seems to be forgotten is that Rangers still owe the smaller tax settlement of £2.8m which Whyte said he would pay. That is still outstanding and now stands at over £4m with the addition of interest and fines. If they cannot afford to pay that what chance of paying even a tenth of the bigger tax case?
It is good that the Rangers fans have decided to wean themselves off following their team. Last Sunday less than 17,000 turned up for possibly their last ever Scottish Cup tie. Mr Murray as a gesture of goodwill to the soldiers serving abroad in illegal wars, offered free attendance at Rangers home games. At the time that was much appreciated, but how times have changed the British army are now using Rangers home games as punishment for soldiers who have broken army rules.
Its pretty clear looking at their actions over the past few months that whyte knows they are ****ed. They arent paying any bills until taken to court for them. my Thoughts are they know administration (or worse) is round the corner - so why pay anything now in full when they know in a few weeks/months they'll get away with paying a % of that. Plus as he's a preferential creditor then he'll want as much cash left in the bank as possible so he gets first dibs. Those others owed money can wait and get their 10%
£49,000,000 - think James Forrest agrees.....or is he taking the proverbial, on the back of his shirt?
I was speaking to a boy at work yesterday and we thought of something (similar to post above about administration). The 3 or 4 years season ticket money has been lent to one of Whyte's own companies and that company has been listed as a 1st class creditor. Whyte can then put the Rangers holding company into administration, pay back his own company and then the HMRC bill (and any utilities) will only get 5 pence back per pound owed. An influx of money will then appear to take the holding company out of administration for the new season. Thoughts?
You say the upfront ticket money has been loaned to one of Whyte's companies but will this money not be called in by the prospective Administrator and/or taken account of in the settlements to creditors?
