I thought it was 11m but not sure if there is any way of certainly knowing the exact figure. Its clear to me that Bates wants promotion though even if he doesn't want to spend much getting there.

It's actually £5m, and you can see that for yourselves in the accounts.

Look, we can all say Redfearn is the right man if we win the next three, but that is not the point. LONG TERM he will absolutely botch the job and set us back a few years. Redfearn is definitely NOT the answer, no matter how romantic his appointment may be. Just like his player policy, Bates now gambles with a manager who's available on a free and so decides "let's take him on trial, if he does okay I can appoint him for a pint of bitter and some woodbines". Please people, understand this, Redfearn will not be the next great manager in our history, he just doesn't have what it takes!! This is already a gamble giving him four games to stake a claim, and signing him on a permanent basis will mean even longer in the Championship. This strategy fills me with fear. Redfearn clearly will not challenge Bates, and expect him to mouth the usual "it's for the good of the club" drivel when our best players are sold or walk on a Bosman. And then what? What players of quality out there will Redfearn be able to attract to play for him? The appointment of Redfearn is more than just the short term results, it's about the FUTURE of our club, and he would simply set us back no end. Enough Bates, enough. Stop talking ambition, start proving it.

Oh God, and now Yorkshire Radio are all over this "Redfearn will get job if Leeds do well in next three" rubbish. And Eddie Gray has said the same thing, which usually means Bates has told him. How fortunate then that its Brighton, Coventry and Donny coming up, with two of those at home. Three games we expect to win!! This is it folks, unless we absolutely bottle it on the pitch then Redfearn is the new manager. No hope for this great club anymore (or is that once great club) while this rubbish chairman is in charge. We are done as far as this season is concerned, no promotion for us. Next season we will probably sit nicely in mid-table with best players gone and eventually Redfearn will get the sack two days before the end of the season and Jack Frost, a promising coach at under-9 level will get four games at the start of the next season to prove he can do the job and off we go again.

Thats spot on and same point i was making. If Redfearn isn't up to the job and his cv suggests he's not, we could be planning for next season in three weeks time. Don't let bates fool you, he'd be just as happy with that scenario as any other. He only wants promotion if achieved on a shoestring, otherwise he's not interested

Johnny Giles suggests that Warnock would do a job for us. Now I can't stand him(warnock obviously), but I have a lot of respect for Giles and it would be interesting to see how Warnock got on.

If it's only £5m, that puts an end to the 'Bates doesn't want promotion' theory I've heard being banded about...

Blackpool held their own in the Prem, weren't relegated until the final day. They're 5th in the league now and not only did they get into the play offs, but they got through to the final, which they went on to win. I'd hardly call a 49 game season flukey.

He doesn't want promotion because the premier league, while bringing in more money, it costs more money to stay there and remain stable. We outfund half the teams in the Championship without even trying, which means staying there is piss easy.

We're worth far more as a Premiership team. TV rights, radio rights, increased sponsorship, hospitality, ticket sales, player value increases as does the club value as a whole. Just because a team is in the premier league, it doesn't mean they need to spend any more money.

Yes, obviously because I disagree with you, that must mean i'm a Bates supporter. Another nice bit of logic there.

In the state Leeds United is currently in, if you don't think Bates should be at Leeds United then it's completely unproductive to defend him or openly agree with anything he says regardless of if you actually do or not. Stuff like that breeds a reinforced belief that he's right and kills any unrest. More unrest is the best way to get the stodgy old ****er out.

I've never defended him, or agreed with anything he's said, i've simply disagreed with something you've said.
