Yes the phatone turned 40 today sat here looking back at 40 years on this planet and so many memories come back. I remember my first ever game the gas against spurs at eastville, we were given free tickets at Failand primary school so off we went i was about 7 i think, and that was it i was hooked. A short time later again at eastville city played rovers, a freind of my family was gas through and through and offered to take me, being an obnoxious 9 year old i would only go if i could cheer for city. I cant remember the score but remember Terry Cooper coming on for city and doing a forward role as he ran on the pitch. That as they say was that i was a city fan and have never looked back. Memories of paying 50p to get in the eastend, the bruises from the carnage that followed the chant of lets go f**** mental! Battles on the pitch with cardiff and rovers fans, that awfull night at trumpton in the where rovers were top we were second winner took the title, we so nearly got the game abandoned. As a 8 year old playing with Roy Hodgson and his son chris on their scaletrix, having a cup of tea with Joe Jordan when i was 12/13 puting a penalty past Jon Shaw when i was 9. At 14 managing every home game for this first time at 16 every home and away match for the whole season, as iv'e got older holidays have been planned around football day trips to blackpool plymouth portsmouth somehow coincide with a city match, the misses can go shopping i watch the footy! So enough self indulgence i think it's clear to see those free tickets to see ossie and ricky villa torment the rovers players have shaped my life, the highs and lows the tears and anger all part of following Bristol City all part of making the phatone a happy contened 40 year old today. Birthday present, 3 points at hull boy do we owe them!! (still)
