I think Glen Johnson's having a really good season, and when he played left back the other day he really performed well.

With the rise in form of Micah Richards a lot of people have questioned Johnson's place as England right back, and I agree, Richards is very good.

But with Ashley Cole getting on a bit, I no longer think he is the best suited player to the England left back role.

    So, Glen Johnson any one?

Can't think of a better player for that position, Baines is the understudy to Cole I think and he's not up to much, it would give England pace from the back with Richards, Walker on the right.

I think that positions should be for Leighton Baines and arguably Ashley Cole. All bias aside, I personally think Leighton Baines is a better player than Ashley Cole. Even then, there should be development of a young English LB to fill that roll rather than playing a different player out of position.

Ok. Good point. Baines is a natural left back and Cole good cover.

Baines is a good argument for No1 Leftback. Excellent delivery both on the move and from deadball. Cole I feel has declined recently, and I wonder whether he still has the fire in his belly for it. We know he loves the kudos and the lifestyle and the ladies...

Glen can certainly do a job for England in the position. It won't be replete with attacking flair and balls in on the run, but in tandem with Johnson or Downing providing the width on the left, he could work.

But left back is a problem slot for England. They're not overly blessed with choice, so Jack Robinson could have quite a future for England...

I would also like to say that I am not completely against the motion. Although I do think it should be a last resort.

If England come up against a really quick right winging, I definitely favour Johnson.

Personally I dont expect attacking flair from a full back, I expect security, good positioning, and well covered line, which with Johnson you always get.

Thinking back at Glen's matches at LB, he's been absolutely excellent defensively. Nearly flawless.

His attacking instincts are curtailed a bit but getting forward too much was always used as a criticism against him anyway.

We're spoilled for choice at RB with Richards and Walker as well and LB is becoming weaker with AshCole on the wane.

I actually think this is an excellent idea.

It may be an idea but to be honest I think whoever is in charge will be too bollockless to drop Ashley Cole.

I think Glen improves defensively at LB because the modern game wingers now like to cut inside a lot of the time, this means that the natural tackle actually falls on to Glens right foot - rather than his left if it was the same situation at RB.
