Great article here: http://thekop.liverpoolfc.tv/_Jay-Spearing-a-growing-lad/blog/5761695/173471.html I have a lot of admiration for Spearing. I'd love to see him in along side Lucas for us next season, bossing every midfield.
He's determined and loves the club, not so sure he has the quality to command a first team place but he may prove me wrong in the coming years. I do think he is perfect cover for Lucas and can play a more advanced midfield role. He is the kind of player we need on the bench and I hope he's at Liverpool for many years.
spearing has heart... he's always been the sandout leader of every age group he's been in and is willing to learn and work hard. The facts are that gets you so far.... i am not of the opinion that he'll be the best player in the owrld though
I like Spearing a lot. For me he has a major problem in that he is not as good as Lucas in the holding role and doesn't have the pass capacity of Adam.
Fortunately, he doesnt need to be the best player in the world. Especially along side a player like Lucas.
I think Spearing should play alongside Lucas in the world famous 'Spucas' partnership when Lucas returns...definitely should be in the team ahead of Adam. Spucas did well towards the end of last season and I think both players have improved and are still improving a lot and could be a formidable partnership in the future. p.s you need to edit your close quote.. I agree with MITO. I've said before that I think Adam is suffering from 2nd season syndrome but he still displays more creative flair than Spearing. As with all of the other replies Lucas remains the number 1 in the holding position.
Great cover that's for sure - hope to see him partnered with Lucas next year if he can keep up the performances.
Fixed I think with some good, quick and creative players in attack, Lucas and Spearing could be the perfect option. It could last for years to come as well.
He's done very well but the problem with him is it's hard to say what his actual role in the team is. In a way he's been our "Water Carrier". He keeps the ball ticking over and is quick to brake up player aswell, His passing ability is actually very underrated, Adam has a better passing range but he misplaces his passes to often. I liked the Spucas combination a lot, though neither him or Lucas get many goals so for that partnership to work it has to be in a midfield trio, possibly behind Gerrard. But yeah them stats don't lie and if he keeps working hard like he is now he definitely has a future with the club and can be an important player
Jesus, Spearing is a class act, but he can't be that short surely, he's about a foot taller than our (Wigan Athletic) winger Crusat, I wish I had a pic of him against Fellaini from the weekend, he just about reached upto his navel, as it is, here's a pic of him standing next to a giant of a footballer please log in to view this image
I like Spearing and I think he will keep getting better. A good solid squad player at the very least.
Well.... squad player for me... I think you can make a defeinsive minded player but you can't make a creative one. spearing can find the role if he's willing to work like a dog for it and accept that when the legs go he'll be dropped very qucikly
Always liked him cos have had a couple of pints with him etc but unfortunately yet he is just not good enough (at the mo) to hold down a first team place.
Too defensive with Spearing and Lucas? Hardly. It means the other four can roam and cause mayhem at will and that there's cover for both flanks if the fullbacks both push up together. These two holding was the basis of our very successful end to the last season. Also, Spearing really isn't THAT bad going forward or picking out good, incisive passes either and at least tends to pass somewhere other than backwards every time unlike many other vastly overrated holding players. All about the Spucas next season. Adam can fight for his spot.
