There was an interesting thread (yes honest) posted in the Gasroom the other day, where someone asked in reality, what do we need to do in order to stay up. Cue lots of 'get rid of Waddock', 'say a prayer', 'sack everyone and get the kids to play' responses etc. Am quite interested in hearing people's views on this though, so will repeat it here.

    Can we stay up?
What do we need to stay up?
    Can Waddock do it?
Will someone else honestly turn it around?

I'd said I reckon we could only need two more players - a DM and a CB, and for us to manage to keep hold of Beaver and the loan signings (Harper, Laing and Whichelow), and for the loan signings to stay good, and for us to get lucky and Waddock to sort it out a bit.

Not too much to ask then. But I don't think it's impossible by a long shot.

    What do you think?

i think staying up is possible under waddock IF he gets his tactics right. we have seen him get tactics and subitutions horribly wrong and correct before. to stay up, we need to try and keep liang and whinchlow, though i dont believe the latter wants to stay. other than that, we need a cm (not bothered about harper, he was utter **** on saturday) and possibly a striker in whinchlow wont stay

Can we stay up? - Yes its possible

What do we need to stay up? - RB, CB (at least one and presuming Laing only around for 1 month, as Leon and Winfield not cut it this season), influential CM and Striker (if Whichelow not around for the season, as too much to expect Beavon to carry us!)

Can Waddock do it? - Possibly this season but I don't see things ever getting better with him with the poor strike rate of good vs bad signing and lack of ability to change a tactic mid-game (reliance on his plan A).

Will someone else honestly turn it around? Depends who that someone is. It either needs to be somebody with successful experience with a "tight budget club," or the next Richie Barker (just an example of a fresh manager who has done fantastically well).

...and who won't come anywhere near us lol

Like I've said before, like it or not we are NOT going to get someone in who is a) better than Waddock and b) prepared to join us.

Our club is going down the pan, and whether we've got Waddock, Gus Hiddink, Mark West or Mike Keen in charge doesn't matter really, because they won't stop us from going into admin and into non-league, which is what - if I had to bet - I'd be putting my coppers on now.

anything is possible in football ,we could stay up but even if we did next season would be exactly the same because waddock hasnt learnt any lessons and still picks his favourites even when they are clearly not playing well.

    1. We can stay up. We are scrapping with a few other teams and we may need a bit of luck but we can do it.

    2. To stay up, we need to win our home games - siege mentality at home. Also we need to keep Waddock. Changing the manager now will result in us going down - bottom line. We also need the fans the get behind him and show what real support is. Too many Wycombe fans are too quick to praise then damn. If we dont get behind the team, who will?

    3. Waddock can do it, absolutely. Many on here were predicting he'd be PL bound and were bleating on about him being the next big thing when we got promoted. Roll on 9 months and they're bleating that he's crap. Modern times, modern ways of 'supporting' your club.

    4. Its too late for someone else to turn it round and, like Jock says, who on earth would want to come to us now anyway. It would either be a) an experienced manager who had been out of work for ever and wanted a massive salary (which we cant/wont give him) or b) someone who hasnt managed before (see previous silly posts re: Steve Brown, Keith Ryan). Why not give Neil Smillie a buzz while we're at it hey?

We may yet go down but ive seen Wycombe do some great things over the years and I believe Waddock is the only chance we have at present.

Of course we can stay up. It just takes a run of three or four games to get you clear of immediate danger and then the whole attitude at the club would take a lift.
Whether we have it in us or not is questionable. Some of the performances this season have been so gutless and defensively inept that I would be inclined to think that we are going down.
It's not all Waddock's fault. Hayes has played a big part in the downgrading of the squad. I've mentioned before the quality we had (Lambert days) to now.
All i can say about Waddock is that he's not been very siccessful in managing the limited budget he has. Most of his signings have been poor or very injury prone. I tihnk we lack a certain physicality needed for this league.
Not sure if a new manager could make the difference now. It depends on their quality. We would still probably be an attractive proposition to a young, up and coming manager from the conference / league 2

i disagree js we have a team that doesnt compete all over the pitch apart from beever who is head and shoulders above any one else.we need a captain as a leader and only ainsworth is capable at the moment but he cant play more than 60 minutes.when the chips are down there is no brownie like figure in the team to get the boys up for a scrap.waddock signed these players so he is responsible.i am not a fickle fan and support the team vocally from the terrace and have done for years,i accept others on here have different opinions but i cant see any future in keeping waddock when he does so many things wrong and never learns from his mistakes.

Waddock said "judge me on my team" -there is your answer
For me, I'd like to see Keith Scott in charge. He has had some success at non league level. He is certainly used to operating with no money and is a WWFC legend.

Jonh Stills - 22nd in League 2 with Dagenham. Really?

Keith Scott - wont even come to watch a game whilst Hayes is in charge.

I love the optimism of thinking a young, up and coming manager from the lower leagues would want to come to us. We are near the bottom of the league, no money and one of the favourites to go down. We are about as attractive as Vanessa Feltz's jock strap after a day out running on a scorching hot day.

I agree with JS, although it is killing me to see us perform so badly most weeks we are actually beating the teams around us which is better than 2 years ago.

I also see Tunnicliffe has been shipped out so I assume another CB is on his way. It also proves to me that he is not afraid to admit he is sometimes wrong, apart from Foster and to some extent Strevens I think he realises that most of the players aren't good enough now and is trying to clear some space for better players. (as in fewer better players as opposed to loads of average players).
