I'd imagine that a manager is under an awful lot of pressure to select certain players. A manager who looked at Wayne Rooney's tournament record and though "no chance" would get destroyed by fans, the media and the people who sponsor him. If the manager dropped lots of big names and the tournament was a car crash, he'd probably get sacked. It's not worth a manager losing a multi-million pound salary and more crucially his professional reputation.

I'd rather see a very youthful England team. Treat the euros as team gelling and learning curve exercise. We have for far to long picked players on their rep, it has never worked.

    It's time for a change.

Me to. Leave behind reputations & anyone carrying any niggling injuries. Also, anyone causing disharmony in the squad, damn, that leaves me with the bare bones! But, worth a try, nothing can be as bad as WC2010. Can it?

I don't see why we are so intent on youth, it's always youth youth youth in the UK, but sometimes experience is better and as I said Capello handed caps to a lot of younger players. I just worry that if you give the job to someone like Redknapp they may drag Ledley King, Carragher and wheel Michael Owen out. He would definitely take blood relatives such as Frank Lampard and everyone at the FA is clamouring for Gerrard to be captain despite being injured for ages.

Personally if you want youth then you might as well appoint Wenger.

Whoever takes over will have the same bunch of overpaid and underperforming nobody's to choose from so it doesn't matter who does the job

Whatever you might think of Capello or Terry I find it an incredible display of incompetency that The FA would make such a decision without even bothering to consult the man who is supposed to be solely in charge of such matters. It's hardly the first time either that those muppets have made choices that should never be theirs to make so whoever comes in will know his team selection is subject to the whims of a bunch of bureucrats with very limited footballing knowledge. It's something that needs to stop if England are ever going to win anything, in fact I think the new manager should insist to have a clause in his contract to guarantee he has the final say. Unlikely to happen though.

I don't think Harry is going to quit Spurs in the middle of the season or accept a part-time job so we're likely stuck with the tactical genius that is Stuart Pearce until the Euros are done. Would have been better off with Capello methinks. Unless The FA pull a masterstroke like appointing another ex-England player, with a blank managerial CV

Probably True. Beckham has definitely been included on occasions when they were expecting low ticket sales. At the end of the day Capello didn't give a **** about England just a massive pay day, hence why he put no real thought into youth players after the world cup debacle & is immediately off to Russia for more filthy lucre. I love Harry, he deserves a chance but you can expect all the old favourites playing under him and the same results. He is already touting Gerrard as the new captain. He will play him and his nephew Lampard in front of Parker.
Glen Hoddle is the only person that has the balls to get rid of the old guard and bring in youngsters and new ideas so desperately needed.
