Its almost that time again for the two player of the year votes - Writers and PFA. Strangely RVP is not the favourite - It's Silva. Comparing the two - Silva had a good but not great first half of the year, a couple of brilliant months, and is now playing well but not great again as City start to feel the pressure. RVP has played in a struggling side all year and maintained a scoring record not seen in a decade in this country. Why is there even a question about this???? Even more remarkable is that Gareth Bale is 3rd favourite. It will be shocking if RVP doesnt get it this year - both awards.
I can't see how anyone other than RVP should get it either, the man has simply been unstoppable for a year.
The only argument against Van Persie will be that the team he plays for are not in the title race compared to Silva. But I think that should not get in the way because for Van Persie to score the amount of goals he has with a team that are not as creative as others is astonishing. He has already scored more league goals then the golden boot winner from last year (Berbatov).
RVP all day long, Silva has been immense-sporadically, RVP has been immense consistently all season, no contest.
If Silva wins, we should petrol bomb the FA headquarters. It would be a ****ing joke. "So David, you played well for 2 months, can't speak a word of english, and are a mercenary bastard, yet you can have this shiny award to wipe your arse with"
RVP should win it hands down, his goal scoring record is out of this world, and he is also a good playmaker as well, the fact he plays for a weaker side than City is all the more reason for him to get the award.
Hi -87 - I was worried that you had succumbed in the 'night of the long knives' - did they put your account back, or did you re-enter it?
He should win... because it's player of the year not team of the year and Silva is surronded by superstars.
RVP has to win it. Not only for his top class performances for Arsenal and his amazing goal scoring form. But the basic fact that Silva plays with better players. RVP has singlehandedly kept Arsenal in touching distance for 4th place. RVP - Arshavin, Gervinho, Walcott, Arteta, Ramsey... Silva - Aguero, Balotelli, Dzeko, Yaya Toure, Nasri... The quality of personnel is pretty clear...
Gareth Bale and Scott Parker won the awards last year. Parker was relegated Bale's team didnt make top 4.
AGree - but the point is that you dont have to be at a title winning team to win the awards. You can even be at a team that got relegated!
The PFA and football writers is pretty fair in that sense. You don't see the sort of bias you get from the fifa awards!
Yes - so i really can not see any other contender for both awards ahead of RVP. Should be a landslide
Well I don't see how anyone can look past RVP considering he has been so solidly consistant for over a year
Not sure I agree with that as Silva and RVP are different positions and you wouldn't look at goals with Silva, Silva had a good end to last season from about Feb and is having a phenomenal season now, same goes for Yaya Toure and Kompany. For me it'd be Silva or RVP both being neck and neck.
I agree RVP must win it and that Silva has been great to watch this season, but a mention for the Swansea keeper, best keeper I've seen this season....
