QPR Boss Expects Big Impact from Wright-Phillips
    Screen shot 2012 02 10 at 10.04.4
Mark Hughes believes that the QPR fans are yet to see the best from winger Shaun Wright-Phillips and is hoping the former Manchester City man can excel in the second half of the season.

Wright-Phillips has made 20 appearances in the Premier League this season but is yet to find the back of the net and only has three assists to his name.

However, Hughes is confident that he can get the best out of the 30-year-old as he attempts to guide QPR clear of the relegation zone as they currently sit in 16th, just five points clear of bottom places Wigan.

“I think Shaun's doing okay,” Hughes told the Ealing Gazette. “In fairness I probably haven't been able to play him in his most preferred position, which is wide right.

“I've moved him around, I've played him in the middle and I've predominantly started him on the left. He's got enough ability to be able to adapt so I've been pleased with that.

“But obviously most players will tell you they would ideally play in their preferred position. We've got players coming back that will allow me to do that and Shaun will feel he can have more of an impact.”

With Wright-Phillips likely to get an extended run on the right hand side of midfield, it seems he could be paired with former Manchester City team-mate Nedum Onouha who is likely to feature with Luke Young currently sidelined through injury.

Onouha saw Wright-Phillips at his devastating best at Manchester City and believes that there is no reason why he cannot rediscover his best form at Loftus Road.

“I've seen him when he was at his absolute peak at City where he scored 12 goals just before he went to Chelsea," said Onouha.

“The thing with Shaun is as a person is that he's very humble and hard working and there's nothing stopping him from being that player again."UNQUOTE

If Sparky can get the best of SWP down that right hand side, we'll have a whole new player.

Hardly a ringing endorsement is it? I mean I'm doing okay at work today but then all I've done is make the tea, watch episode 9 of Borgen on the iPlayer and book Thyme Cafe for lunch, I could be doing a lot better

Sounds quite productive compared with some of Sean's games! Yet we know he can put the fear of God into some teams when he clicks - Norwich were terrified of him when he came on in the second half of our home game against them.

I wish he would stop prancing around as if he's wearing a skirt running through a field of flowers. That's what he looks like to me when he's got the ball. <laugh>

Why would he even mention this? Sounds like SWP is on a warning to me.

Lets face it, hes been awful on the left and that was done to accommodate Mackie of all people, not playing him on the right has been the biggest tactical failure all season. Virtually everyone apart from the people who count could see it.

Fair enough hes been doing whats asked of him without complaining but I expect a whole lot more on the right, getting to the byline and putting some crosses in for a start.

If Buz is fit I won't be surprised if SWP is on the Bench at Bb. Bartonat RM, and Traore to get some crosses in from LM.

Youd drop Taarabt after his last performance?

    Taarabt - Buz - Barton - SWP

Spot on wouldn't be mentioned if there wasn't a problem. He was on the right last weekend running out of excuses, I really hope he comes good but there is only so long you can give before a spell on the bench is needed.

We certainly must NOT start Barton wide on the right - every time he's played there he's kept moving into the centre and left us exposed down the right

He also is about as pacy as a snail

And keep him out of our penalty box - I've lost count of the number of times this season he and SWP have tried to play the ball out and merely passed it to the opposition <steam>

MARK Hughes reckons QPR fans will see the best of Shaun Wright-Phillips now the winger is playing in his preferred position.
The former Manchester City man has been a big disappointment since his multi-million pound switch to Loftus Road in August, while also failing to find the net in 22 appearances.
However, Sparky reckons he can bring the best out of the 30-year-old, who was an England regular during his time under the Welshman at City.
Wright-Phillips returned to his more natural position on the right flank in Saturday's defeat to Wolves, and will get another chance to impress at Blackburn tomorrow.

“I think Shaun's doing okay,” said Hughes.
One player who is keen to hook up with Wright-Phillips is pal and former City team-mate Nedum Onuoha.
With Luke Young*ruled out*with a hamstring injury, Onuoha could be used as a makeshift right-back at Ewood Park.
And he insists there's no reason why his mate can't rediscover the form that made him one of the hottest prospects in the country.
Onuoha added: “I've seen him when he was at his absolute peak at City where he scored 12 goals just before he went to Chelsea.
“The thing with Shaun is as a person is that he's very humble and hard working and there's nothing stopping him from being that player again."*
