danny wilsons view http://www.sufc.co.uk/page/Gaffersnotes/0,,10418~2606526,00.html the bit about we are creating more chances now and are more clinical in front of goal worries me lets hope the blues can keep ched evans and richard cresswell quiet and we nick a goal to win it ,come on you blues
Think it is a safe bet to say it will not end 0-0. Losing today would not be the end of the world as the game on Tuesday is far more important to our season.
thought today was a really gutsy performance for 65 minutes: a good defencive display but when we went behind there was no plan B. when waddock took of whinchlow for lewis after 2-0 i know there was only one outcome. on the plus side - nice ground, good day and matt mcclure looked lively
nice to hear you had a good out barring the result, any chance you could do a review of the game sunday ,cheers mate
try to do a rough review of the game, not something im overly good at! for anyone who hasent seen the team, waddock seemd to set out with a 5-4-1 formation, with winchlow on the wing. it was clear waddock was going out for a draw and out style was the definition of parking the bus. having said that, it seemed to work with winfield and johnson throwing themselves at everything restricting sheffield united mainly to shots from distance. beavons technique showed through but he got very little support whenever he got the ball in the sheffield half, only occasionally matt bloomfield (who yet again worked tirelessly) giving him any help. wanderers were also hindered slightly by a referee who seemed to give every little thing the blades way, and ever booked bloomfield for a dive when he was tripped running through on goal. towards the end of the half, sheff u had thier best chance of the half when a shot curled inches wide of nikki bulls post. half time, 0-0. second half continued much the same - blades continued to pressure but still wanderers defended strongly, with sheffields best early chance being sent into the side netting from a few yards (we were behind the other goal). finally, wycombe then clicked into gear going forward with beavon looking very lively resulting in harper nearly scoring from 20 yards. beavon then worked himself into a good position, only to mess the shot up. as sheffield coninued pressurising, the breakthrough came. a 20 yard through ball unluckly deflected off bloomfield to fall right into the path of will hoskins, who couldnt miss. at 1-0 wanderers failed to chance thier stratergy and 8 minuetes later, jean-francois scored from a cross wanderers failed to clear. waddock made chances too late, with mcnamee and mcclure both coming on after 76 minuetes. having said that, both caused sheffield united some problems and mcclures saw a header blocked on the line at 2-0, which could have changed the game. however it wasent to be, and the blades made it 3-0 late on with a harsh deflection postives: wanderers defended bravely, probably deseved a loss but 3-0 flattered the blades. very nice ground, simple drive up, decent atmosphere (made better by the birmingham and charlton fans who turned up). also good to see matt mcclure back negatives: waddocks plan A nearly worked but when we went behind there was no plan B. he made the subsitutions too late, and bloomfield being booked for diving was just wrong. disappointing not to see gaz either, but apparently he has his reasons ratings: bull 6 foster 6 winfield 7 johnson 6 liang 6 basey 5 winchlow 4 harper 5 bloomfield 6 strevens 6 beavon 7 subs: mcnamee 6 mcclure 7
Good review jose. I was following the game online and although it sounded like a gutsy performance it was only a matter of time before they broke us down. A pretty similar game to Huddersfield away earlier this season. As said, Tuesday night is much more important. Not only that, the next 4 games after Yeovil are all games we should be looking at taking points from.
Good review Jose, pretty much blow for blow how my dad described and raised exactly the same points. Good for 60 minutes but should have made the changes at 1-0 rather than 2-0 when the game was already lost. Its less of a worry against the bigger teams as even a good performance against them is not likely to return much more than a draw but it is something that is key against bottom half of the table teams. Waddock needs to be more flexible and respond to what happens in a game more quickly.
yes lewis did come on, my mistake. he looked typical stuart lewis but he wasent the player we needed at the time, as waddock took off winchlow for him at 1-0. 6
