I'm afraid so. Some shoving and tussling is tolerated, but actual violent conduct, i.e. assault, is a red card. Gotta keep it by the book.

Just imagine it in a 'real life' situation. What would you feel more assaulted by? If someone came up and pushed you or grabbed your collar, or if someone slapped you in the face?

Sessegnon raised his arm -red card, no argument there. To say it was 'violent conduct' is unfair.

Here's me thinking that tiote was a hard man. He was felled by a slap to his boobs and he must have collapsed after they rebounded on his chin...........what a cheating tosser. I bet the real hard men of the toon are sitting in their pubs red in the face knowing, as they will, that tiote had taken a girly tap and felled.

Nah that's ****e, they were all cheating yesterday. Frazier Campbell did the same thing play acting wise. Sessengnon , quite rightly, would have gone regardless as the ref saw him do it. Tiote was just making sure. It was a derby and the players from BOTH sides took it upon themselves to get whatever advantage they could. Ref seemed to sway one way first half, and one way the 2nd.

As for O'Neill's assertion that Tiote should have been sent off, sour grapes. Cattermole ont he other hand obviously should have went for his tackle. A premeditated lynching should always be red.

I know who CT, the cheating toe rag, reminds me of, one Graham sourpuss he could not play football either and all he did was kick foul and elbow opponents

"Tiote should not have been on the pitch to elbowed by Sessegnon" as per Andy Townsend on, anyone who disagrees with that comment is onbiosly a ****in idiot ot a mag, if not both.

Tiote was kicking lumps out of anything in a red and white shirt and got away with it.

He kicked Sessegnon about 3 times in the 10 seconds leading up to the sending off.

Putting all your eggs in the clueless Townsend basket is just priceless. Now if that does not qualiify as desperate, I'm not sure what does. Next you'll be telling us Garth Crooks knows how to pick team of the week! The guy shows himself to be clueless on a weekly basis. You'll struggle to name many yellow card offences by Tiote, he was booked for persistent fouling which was correct.

Its not his fault Sessengnon can't control himself. Absolute thug.

You're having a laugh calling Sess a thug smallest player on the pitch, I wonder he he even managed to reach the Giant that is Tieto's chest never mind his jaw.

I am indeed having a laugh. I love all the hour after/day after posts. People still full of emotion claiming allsorts. All I know is, our derby is the best in the country for me. I'm sure all the other clubs fans feel the same about their own, but none have the same ferocity from what I can see. O'Neill's reaction to it all was similar to Pardew after his first one, it didn't disappoint. None of this no shaking hand bollocks at the end either. Got in each others face (literally) for 90 minutes and then just shook hands and moved on, the way it should always be.

Whereas Sessengnon had to go I don't consider him a thug, just a rush of blood. Elbow hit the chest, hand glanced his jaw. Neither enough to send him sprawling but Tiote making sure had no bearing. I thought the ref struggled at times to be honest. He seemed to give everything to Sunderland first half, but then favoured us 2nd to make up for it. But yesterday was a thankless task for any referee and so you have to cut him some slack.

4 games apparently - 2 for the 10 yellows and 2 for the red card. According to SAFC http://www.safc.com/news/20120305/sunderland-pair-handed-bans_2256213_2633624

No argument about Catts the man is a fool. Whilst Sess did raise his hand (although Simpleton got away with it against McClean), there was not much force and the cheating play actor had been kicking him just before, can we appeal the length of the ban?

If it wasn't for the emotions you go through, I'd have a derby every week. When Ba missed the pen yesterday, I sat and thought "yep that ball is not going in today" resigning myself to defeat. We were chucking everything at you lot. To be fair Sunderland were defending for their lives, throwing everything they could in the way. I know the quality of football was not the best either side has to offer but it was more than made up for in passion from both sides, players and management.

Sess was bloody stupid to get himself a 3 match ban. He should have the book thrown at him by Mon. He cost us the win.

Catts is also a thick twat and should be likewise punished by the club. These 2 may well have just cost us the FA Cup quarter final game now.

Tiote on the otherhand is just a soft cock and will never again boast a tough man image.

Chuck Norris? More like Coronation Streets Norris.
