i gave up on the bbc a while back when they canned a round in favour for indoor bowls totally useless and as annoying as julian ryder and toby talkshite are on euro sport it's a much better viewing experience and worth waiting for the moto gp race (not shown live but as live after it has been run, something to do with the powers that be and having to show the moto gp race on accessible tv <laugh>)as they also show the free practice and warm up sessions as well as qualifying and the races.

Eurosport can't show the race live as the BBC is the only people allowed to show the race live :)

This is the Laguna Seca round, that is generating these comments, I suppose. Generally, I find the BBC's coverage fine. I don't have the time to watch practice live, and frankly, by the time it's over I wouldn't want to watch a recording either. Qualifying is fine on a Freesat stream or online. Usually, the build up to an 800cc race is fine too, and of course, we get MotoGP Extra during European rounds. My only real gripe is putting the 125s and Moto2 on the infamous Red Button. We all know the Red Button is just another channel, so why the Beeb can't issue the channel number is beyond me. Then all one has to do is tap in the channel number and Voila..! Motor cycle racing without being a slave to The Red Button. As I record the whole lot, I tend to leave my freesat box on its stream channel and I get everything running into each other, even the main race. I then edit the races apart, and save.

Laguna Seca is the stand out, where poor coverage is concerned. For as long as I can remember, as it is an evening race as far as the UK is concerned, the BBC2 schedules are tight with programmes. Even a couple of weeks ago, Jeremy Clarkson announced that he didn't care about MotoGP [the other two did as they are actually bikers, on the sly] so why should he have to keep his programme schedule running precisely [TG does overrun sometimes]. They made a joke of cutting him off. However, the next programme could have been a temp half-hour one, to allow us half and hour of build up to the race [budget..?], instead of the scheduled hour long show. So we ended up with MotoGP starting just as the bikes were lined up on the grid. Not satisfactory.

However, it is the only race in the season where this happens. All the other ones get build up and a little wind down. The European ones also get MotoGP Extra, so proper podiums and interviews with everyone including the MotoGP, GP125 and Moto2 Brits. Now if they could only do that right across the whole season..?
