I feel really sorry for Paul Connolly. His most recent problem was caused because he was determined enough to try and get the ball with a slide tackle in a game where few other players had shown any passion. It wasn't a bad attempt at a tackle, and it stopped Watford from going further forward around ther halfway line - exactly what you want your player to do. Unfortunately he was already on a yellow and got a second. So he gets slated by the manager. "He probably didn't want to play at Reading." What a really **** thing to say about a player. What happens next? The Bent Snake repeats the same shiite on his radio station. Connolly slated again. But what if Connolly hadn't slid in? He's up against a young, fast and tricky player who would probably have flown past him and set up a promising attack. And his manager would have slated him for not having the balls to tackle the player. Lose-lose situation. Grayson did the same. Every time Connolly makes any mistake he is slated and statements like "some people will not play for the club again" get trotted out. And then repeated by The Bent Snake. Yet they clearly aren't telling Connolly what they want. Take the Reading game. Post-match, on the OS, Warnock says he is proud of the way his team battled and put it about. Despite the fact that if the referee had been in any way competent, we should have been down to 8 men before half time. So is Warnock only interested in players who are able to "get away with it"? And how hypocritical is it to praise that kind of play in the game after you slagged off one of your own who played in exactly that way? I fecking hate hypocrites. If much of this continues, I am going to start seriously disliking our manager. Either you want your players to at least try these things, or you don't. Paul Connolly is being hung out to dry, and has been since Grayson
Think Bates getting involved was probably a step too far, but at the end of the day, passionate or not, it was a stupid tackle. Deserved to be sent off, deserved the manager questioning his commitment to the Reading game. Obviously he wanted to play the Reading game, yeah, but making a stupid tackle like that in the last minute of a game we're definitely going to lose...just petulant. Even if he had pulled out of challenge, there's no guarantee Watford would've scored. And even if they did, he had a valid reason for not making the challenge. Don't hate Warnock for saying it how it is.
Its strange isn't it? The only thing I can think of is Connolly is a bit of a bad apple. An average player who I would actually start with more often than not due to his position & lack of competition. When Warnock came in I was sure Connolly would see out the season as the regular RB I can only think he has a bad attitude or isnt good to have around the team.
I think Warnock was angry because it was so late in the game and we had no chance of getting anything out of it so it was probably best just to ride it out. Considering we already had players out it wasn't helpful getting another suspension, I guess, but I do see your point. No sure about Warnock laying into players so much in public - don't know what it can achieve really.
he wasn't good enough for derby and he certainly isnt good enough for us! if warnock wants promotion then players like connolly need to be shipped out! I can imagine he'd make a good right back from teams like Doncaster/Posh/Bristol City I was at the Barnsley game and he was awful, i'd paid enough money to realise my purchase on tickets wern't worth the cost of his weekly wage! Lets not forget it was his fault for the west ham goal (the build up to the goal)
He's absolutely average, but who do you replace him with - and who would take him off our hands? There's a load of players that are more urgent ship-outs, IMO.
So should we now question Snoddy for his stupid yellow card today, what about Brown for his red, what about Lees for his stupid yellow today? Has Snoddy now hit 10 yellows for the season? What has happened to bringing the kids in? Not even on the bench. The reason for brining in a new manager is that it is meant to improve results from the same squad. This has certainly not happened. There was a bounce in the first two or three games, but I see even less in terms of teamwqork and teamplay than when Grayson was here. Has Warnock lost the dressing room already?
I already dislike our manager But I do think replacing Connolly will be a priority next season and I used to think he wasn't half bad
Come on Josh 'already' you never liked him before a ball was kicked you have always disliked him. Your dislike is nothing to do with how he has performed as a Leeds manager.
