QPR set to meet Ba release clause
    08:00 PM 29 May, 2012
Queens Park Rangers are set to meet the release clause in Demba Ba’s contract.

Mark Hughes is eager to bolster his attacking options this summer, as he looks to avoid a repeat of last season when they escaped relegation only on the final day.

The QPR boss is already being to accept he has little chance of persuading Tottenham Hotspur to sell Jermain Defoe, so has instead set his sights on Ba.

The 27-year-old scored 16 Premier League goals for Newcastle United last season, and Hughes is prepared to meet the £7million release clause in his contract.

Probably bollocks, but Ba for 7million would be great

If he has a release clause of only £7m there will be many, many clubs prepared to offer way more. What a complete load of crap.

It'll be a squeaky-bum summer for Toon fans who won't be happy if Ba and Cisse are snapped up by the big-guns. We've no chance...

We could always trade our Cisse for their Cisse, and throw in a Barton as a sweetener (or even a sickener).

Think this is a classic summer non-story.

People always claim this'll be the case every summer. We were meant to fade away in January after selling our best players...No one went, signed one gem.

Both strikers will not leave. We have European football, they won't want to leave and our owners won't be that stupid to let them go.

Its nothing to do with Newcastle letting him go. They don't have a choice if someone offers 7mil and he wants to go. Would be great but think he will end up at spurs next season.

    This, repeated for Badger's benefit.

If he wants to go, and if someone offers the release clause amount, then the club have to let him go - they have no contractual way to prevent him leaving. The only thing they can do is to work on his desire to stay, because it will be up to the player himself, once someone has offered the £7m.

"Work on his desire to stay" - essentially a euphemism for offering him more dosh

True, it seems he CAN go if he wants if the clause is met, however I think it's pretty damn certain he won't be going to QPR <laugh> Jesus.

Toon fans you have Mike Ashley, so anything is possible. Surprised you haven't set up a phoenix club, yet.

Both Cisse's up front for us would be great, but you can keep Demba Ba.

He wouldn't be out of his depth in any of the top 6 or 7 teams and if The Toon can't keep him I reckon he'd want a move to a higher profile club with deeper pockets. I do not expect to see him in hoops next season. Newcastle will also be lucky to hang onto their Cisse, he has been the signing of the year and I can see one of the big guns making an offer too good to refuse.

Expect him to go to Leeds - compared to even Newcastle, they're massive. ;)
