It seems Chelsea have agreed a fee for Hulk, around 38m.

So this will be their up front 3 next season

    Hazard------Torres------Hulk

    0.0

Plus they have Mata, Essien, Ramires and who ever they sign after that in support....

I know it's not just about player quality, but I seriously can't see us competing with Chelsea next season.

I think Abramovic really means business and they know exactly what they want.

They're going for the title IMO. And with a team like that then I'd say they'd have a great chance.

What I really want to know is, can we realistically expect to keep up with Chelsea for a top 4 place?

I guess Chelsea dont give a fook about FFP?

Unless Roman is gonna take a leaf outta Man Citys book and just sponsor his own stadium for half a billion?

    In a word, no!

Marin, Hazard, Hulk, Mata, Sturridge, Torres - nightmare stuff!

I said it on their board about 2 minutes ago, we'll be in the european scrap with Arsenal, Spurs, Everton and Liverpool, whilst Chelsea Man U an Man C all try to outspend each other in the race for hte title

I think Chelsea will be back in the hunt for the title next year so no. But outside the big 3, I think we can compete with the rest.

I think it will be us and Arsenal battling for 4th, but I reckon we could very possibly be finishing in the exact same position as this season, which would definitely do me!

It's reported Chelsea got around £100m for winning the CL and taking part. So they are unfortunately well within their rights.

If they can get a few good defenders then wow. A front six of:

    Marin Ramires Mata
    Hazard Torres Hulk.

Simply class on paper. Who's going to make it work though?

I suppose you just have to accept they are looking **** hot. As you say they are within their rights after banking silly amounts off the CL win. To be fair they already have some quality defenders. I know Luiz had a tricky first season but the lad has copious amounts of natural talent. Cahill is top class. Ivanovic is top class. Cole needs little comment. Bertrand looks ideal cover.

The one area left where they could do with some new blood is right back. I think Ivanovic is a centre back by trade. Bosingwa is on the move so I expect they'll get a world class right back in. I expect they'll add one top class central midfielder too as Mata and Marin are more at home in attacking midfield roles. Hulk, Hazard, Marin, Mata is lethal attacking midfield options. They'll be supported by the youngsters like De Bruyn, Lucas, Kakuta etc. Torres will be main man again and I expect he'll flourish. Basically they look **** hot and with the likes of Drogba, Kalou, Malouda, Bosingwa, Ferreira likely all to move on and be on massive wages, they have a fair bit to come back in finances wise.

When you look at the Chelsea team on paper, in value and in reputation, then we have absolutely no right to be competing with them - it's frightening!

Then again, if I'd written that 12 months ago would that many people have said I was way off the mark?

We have one thing that is impossible to buy which will help keep us in amongst the brass, unity and spirit. We have quality too but I have no doubt our team ethic is undercurrent which has carried us along.

Agreed. Thats why this year I really hope we don't buy a superstar who will be on higher wages than everyone else. We have something that is impossible to buy but easy to lose if handled badly. Luckily I think Pards has to much sense to throw that away.

Just stick to the plan I say. We've been there and done that with the big egos and wages to match.

Which is exactly why this Chelsea team might not be the run away success that it looks like it should be (along with citeh). Let them make the back page headlines and we can quietly keep in touch without anyone else noticing again :)

Team would be scary going forward, but would be extremely vulnerable at the back. Mainly if Terry is playing.

I'm not expecting to be finishing as high as we did this season next season, but its not completely out of the question though, if we keep hold of our best players and bring in a few gems. If we don't have hope and ambition what do we have?

For the record, with the money and players Chelsea are bringing in we may never be able to fully compete with them, but football is a funny game and who knows what could happen.

    No.

Chelsea will spend their way quite close to the title. I don't see you chaps there.

Agreed. I think we'll be in the upper-mid table along with the likes of Everton, Villa (if Lambert has a positive impact) and Liverpool. If we can push for a Europa spot then great but Top8 and a good showing in Europe would do me fine.

RA appears to be rising to the challenge of the Sheik, this is the most expensive game of 'my cock's bigger than yours' I've ever seen.*

    * Not that I'm into that sort of thing. <ok>

We're in the 2nd tier of the Prem. I'd say Chelsea have moved to the top

    Title Challenger tier
    Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea

    European Chaser tier
Arsenal, Spurs, Newcastle, Everton, Liverpool (only just)

    Mid-Table tier
Fulham, West Brom, Stoke, Sunderland, Norwich, Swansea, Villa (only just)

    Relegation fighter tier
West Ham, Southampton, QPR, Wigan, Reading
