I know, but I suspect he won't cost 12m euros.

getting your neighbours/rivals involved in talks, is 99.99999999% heresay
it is a ploy by the agents to up the value of said player
how could they get a better price for the player if for say eh! Barnsley were after him as well
    total bollocks

If Sunderland are after him, we won't be
If Newcastle are after him, they won't be

in the past it has been very, very, very rare that both clubs have tabled a bid for the same player
if anyone can care to enlighten me to who, I would be greatful / repful

Isn't it actually a good omen if Sunderland are after him?

NUFC VS SAFC for Ba = Signed for NUFC
NUFC VS SAFC for Cisse = They payed for his flight!
NUFC VS SAFC for Guidetti = :p

Without meaning to be disreectful or deluded (well, I suppose one never intends to be deluded - - that's sort of part of the definition), we must have more pulling power at the moment than Sunderland. European foootball, a number top international players, larger crowds, a recent history of stability and progress (how bizarre is that ?) and, from the clubs point of view, we pay cash. And, if you want to add a subjective element, where would you rather live ?

Our local neighbours are going to have to offer considerably more both to club (if they want to pay on the drip) and to the player if they want to swoop on one of our targets this summer.

Certainly done well over in Holland. Hard to know his quality really because he has never had a chance at City. He scored something like 20 in 23 for Feyernoord. Saying that the reality is that goals are much easier to come by over there (worth bearing in mind with regard to De Jong's record), but we'll have done our homework if we are interested. I don't think City will be letting him go cheap but I wouldn't expect him to cost anywhere near the 12m wanted for De Jong (over priced for me).

We'll see but I'm not against them both coming in ;)

i don't think anyone could disagree with those points, perhaps aside from the recent history of stability. Our current manager is the first since Sir Bobby to complete one entire season at the helm, we have only spent 2 seasons back up in the Premier League and whilst financially we DO look stable, its not long since the fans stopped singing the fat cockney bastard song (and I'm sure there's one or two that still would).

in comparison, Sunderland stuck by Bruce for a long time, and look set to keep O'Neill in the hotseat and unfortunately have been a Premier League club for more consecutive seasons recently!

I find it quite annoying how even some of our own fans don't think we're a big club.

We're not part of the elite bracket like Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal, and I we're not currently setting the world on fire like Man City, but even though we're not part of this bracket, it doesn't mean we're not a big club.

We signed Hatem Ben Arfa when we'd just been promoted, and after one season back up, despite being 12th, we managed to sign even more fantastic players.

We are still known and very well respected all across Europe. I've heard Frenchies say they like us because we signed Laurent Robert and Philippe Albert. Why Albert I don't know because he's Belgian, but whatever.

We're still a big club with a big fan base, the best away fans in the premier league easily, we pull in 50k crowds consistently in the PL now, and we managed to get a 44k avg in the CC! That's ****ing impressive.

At the end of the day I'd rather be a semi-big club with pulling power than can sign the right players for the right money and do well, rather than a massive club with a **** load of cash but is in mountains of debt and spends ridiculous amounts on players, like Liverpool.

We're a big club, but we need to do a bit more work if we want to be part of the Elite pack again.

I don't think anyone would deny we're in the 2nd tier of English and to some extent European teams in terms of size and pulling power. But some fans are ridiculous with their valuation of the club's strength, and this compells the less delu...can't bring myself to say it (the 'D' word) fans to tone down their praise in an effort to add a bit more parity to the table.

We definitely are still known and respected in Europe.

I was chatting with a local in Madrid a few months back. He said he was a Gato (literally cat but slang for someone born and rasied in Madrid). I told him I was a hurraca (magpie). He thought about this for less than a second and said "Ah, Alan Shearer".

    I was well impressed.
