hi guys, I just posted this on the old 606 forum, but since it is now closed I thought I will start posting on here now. So I have copy n pasted it below: He has had a good 1st season but does anyone else think he is not the answer to strengthen our midfield? I think he needs to play week in/week out to play anywhere near the quality he has been for Blackpool this season, and I feel he will only be a squad player if he does come to Anfield. I have to say he didn't seem too influential today and seemed out of his depth playing for Scotland against Brazil. I would rather take Scott Parker at the age of 30/31 if West ham were to get relegated this season, but there are plenty of other (younger) midfielders that can play the holding role out there. We have been linked with Defour recently and others have mentioned M'vila. Would you be happy with Adam? Or would you prefer someone else?
I think everyone overhyped Adam when they saw a few of his long passes and then assumed he would be like Alonso, when in real life he is nowhere near as good. Good enough for a midtable team but should not play a big role in a team any higher than that.
He's shines out at a club like Blackpool... The problem is that if he was to join a club like Liverpool he may seem pretty average. Yeah he has a good range of passing but surely we should be looking for players that are more complete. Dont get me wrong, he would make a good squad player, but i dont think paying anymore than 7-8 mil for him is good business.
I was keen earlier in the season, but i'm not now. I think it may have almost been a panic buy. Parker I agree would be good, but he doesnt fit the idea of singning young players so I would be surprised if we signed him. Stay on not606 mate!
I don't know about Adam; there is more to him than just being "a big fish in a small pond." His freekicks and corners are his trademark and if we were going to buy him I'd hope we'd give him them roles, but I don't think he warrants his large price tag. He'd be a squad player and 8-10m for a CM squad player when we already have plenty of players who can play in that position is too big.
The problem is we already have Gerrard and Suarez (amongst others) to take freekicks and corners... I agree that for the money he would be wasted as he have plenty of others in that position
Gerrard is poor at corners though, and we want Suarez on the end of them, so I think we do need people good at set pieced, i.e. wingers, Young, even Downing.
Yeah good point... Meireles takes a good corner. However, ideally we want him sitting on the edge of the area attacking the loose ball.
Yup exactly. We realy need to spend big this summer, we have dropped like a lead baloon this season. Although we have proved we have the spirit and courage. Just need more quality now!
Oh God, don't get me started on Gerrard taking corners! How have our last 4 managers not realised that he is the worst corner taker in the history of man!
Adam had a stinker in the last match but has been consistant throughout the season. There is a doubt in my mind though is he really good enough?
Biggest problem with getting Banega is luring him away from Valencia. They're 3rd in la liga and in the champion's league, not to mention he's a regular starter there. I think it would be hard for any team to lure him away personally, in the end it'll come down to money and how much Valencia want to keep hold of him.
True but I doubt Gerrard would be happy as a bit part player, and with his legs going his only 2 positions that he could do well for you are behind the striker and in CM. As Banega and Lucas would probably be your best combination in CM that means he would have to compete with Suarez for the role behind the striker.
Actually it's more likely Meireles (who hasn't been very prolific recently) would be forced out of the first 11, with Gerrard going back to his favoured AM position with Banega and Lucas acting as "Mascherano and Alonso."
I agree with that. Mereiles is more of a CAM than a Deep lying playmaker, the difference between the two is that most deep lying playmakers can put their foot in.Mereiles like Aquilani can't put his foot in.Different games require different formations and as we all know variety is the spice of life.We need as much variety as possible. We could have some games thats provided we sign wingers that a straight 4-4-2 is needed,Then we could go with a midfield 3 if one of the strikers needs a rest or is injured. As I said the more variety we have the better. The more different types of players we have can only be a good thing.
