lost 4-1 to brentford tonight - utter shambles. our goal came from a fantastic header into the bottom corner, unfortunatly from a brentford player. the team were outclassed, outhought and generally outdone by brentford, we didnt look together as a unit defensively and our only threats going forward was from grant and beaver.

BULL - cant fault him, not a lot he could have done about either of the 2 goals. a couple of good saves as well
MCCOY - quick, looked ok going forward but in general poor (but it did show when he went off)
DUNNE - played RB, looked medioc but still young
BASEY - waddock played in centre back (no idea why) slow at the back and confidence was shot after he scored an own goal, nodding past bull
DOHERTY - worst ive ever seen him play but, worringly, probably our best defender in the first half

KEWLEY-GRAHAM - popped up everywhere, worked hard but ultimatly lacked a bit of quality. hopefully he will build as a player
SPRING - showed real quality, tried to run the midfield on his own. looks like our best signing
COURTNY HARRIS (TRIALIST) - played 90 minutes, looked ok-ish missed a goalden chance at the end slotting wide from 6 yards
ANGOL - a bit of a ghost, popped up from nowhere and gave thier keeper a shot to deal with in the first half oterwise offered nothing
OLI - dropped back a bit, worked hard but not lot going forward

BEAVON - struggled with no service but a couple of nice touchs and some decent work uptop

    second half

INGRAM - did little wrong, pehaps could have done better with brentfords 3rd
LEWIS - didnt do a lot really
BLOOMFIELD - worked hard, got a few passes away but had little in the game and struggled to tackle
WOOD - actually looked quite good, few decent crossed and a lovely ball into grant which nearly resulted in harris scoring. would start him against watford
LOGAN - took a centre. took a centre again. that was about all he did
GRANT - probably our best player, only creative option up front, again should start against watford
TAYLOR McKENZIE (trialist) - plaued at centre back, brentford walked through the defence with only stewert and ingram stopping them. confident we will never see him in a WWFC shirt again
STEWERT - looked good by the rest of the pitchs standerd
SCOWEN - not judging him as waddock p;layed him as a right back, where he struggled

    think ive covered that enough!!!

I went to the match this is what i made of it

Bull: Didn't make his presence felt which led down in breakdown of communication for 2nd goal.
Dunne: A bit shaky but did OK
Doherty: Very poor, couldn't make his passes and was beaten on numerous occasions.
Basey: Poor at centre back and scored an awful own goal, better at left back
McCoy: Started poorly, but improved with Grant in front of him in second half.
Kewley-Graham: Was OK, looked tidy but unspectacular
Spring: Made some good passes and took good touches, probably star performer of first half.
Oli: Awful, overweight and slow, will not make an impression if he doesn't lose some weight quickly
Angol: Was on the fringes but a few good touches
Harris (trialist): He'll be dropped by tomorrow if Waddock has any sense, terrible performance
Beavon: Very isolated and worked hard out of the little he got.

    Subs:
Ingram: Made a couple of good saves but should have done better with their corners
Lewis: Added a new dimension to the midfield
Bloomfield: Was OK, did a few good passes
Wood: Wasteful with a couple of chances but looked lively
Logan: Hardly did anything, very anonymous
Grant: Added an attacking threat, unlucky not to score and played a perfect assist to the wasteful harris
McKenzie (trialist): Looked decent, plays the ball out of defence well, worth another look
Stewart: Played a few poor passes but wasn't too bad otherwise
Scowen: Too small and weak to be a defender, he was exposed

Comparing with JS, funny we disagree on a few things, I thought McKenzie was a good player in a poor defence. Also, not sure if it's Bull or Doherty that should be sorting things out, but there was so little communication around the defense and I think Bull should take a bit of the blame for the own goal as he was absolutely nowhere. Otherwise our ratings are pretty similar.

thanks for the feedback lads ,sounds like waddock was trying to give every one a game to improve their fitness even if they were played out of position.it's only a friendly lets hope he gets it right come the start of the season.

I think there were some positives to take from that match, Doherty and Stewart looked good together in the matches before hand, so they will probably be the centre backs. Our full backs look fairly good and our mifield will be OK, it's just our strikers that I'm worried about.
I'd play this line up for Watford:

    Bull
    Mccoy, Stewart, Doherty, Basey
    Grant, Spring, Lewis, Bloomfield, Angol
    Beavon

We should experiment with 4-5-1, giving Grant and Angol more freedom to push forward, like we did at times last season when Eastmond, Lewis and Bloomfield played in a 3 man midfield last season. It might not work, but I think Grant, Angol and Beavon have looked the most promising going forwards in pre season, whereas Oli and Logan, supposedly strikers, have been poor.

yes, i agree that there should have been more communication across the defence. bull should perhaps take a bit of blame for he own goal, but mainly basey.

id play the same team as you, hopefully we will put up more of a fight against watford! i think waddock will either release both trialists or keep both. i do think we need another striker but where the funds would come from i dont know

Nikki Bull seems to think that Saturday is an extension of pre-season, so I guess the link to the Watford vs Wycombe Wanderers Match Thread belongs here.

    http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/161204-Match-thread-Watford-vs-Wycombe-Wanderers

Our match threads are usually quite lively, as we have not606ers in places such as France, Mexico, Iceland, New Zealand and Norway. And yes, even Scotland. It's always great to have some away fans in there as well. <ok>
