Learnt a lot of new words that day, I bet. Very educational for kids, is football. You get to find out all kinds of things about referees and opposition players.

In that case, you'd cry at the prices nowadays if tha's what you were used to.

How big were the crowds in those days AB?

    Massive, and all standing too.

Used to get thrown down to the front of the ground (touchline) over the heads of the adults.

Absolutely. Took my little one to the Blackburn FA cup game last season for his first game being a similar sort of age as i was when i went to my first game and he would of witnessed one of the best goals seen at SJP had he not been engrossed in mario on his Nintendo 3DS. Another couple of years maybe.

Jim Iley was captain and it was against Huddersfield or Southampton but cant remember.
I do remember walking up the Gallowgate steps and seeing the pitch fo the first time, magic and even now I get a buzz when I see the pitch before a game.

    I'm ashamed to say:

Chester City vs Peterborough United, 26th November 2005

    Chester won 3-1

    I was 10

I'm still amazed I like football after that baptism...

    23rd October 1971

Toon 0 Man Ure 1 (Best)

George Best's goal was all the more impressive since he'd received a death threat (supposedly from the IRA) saying that he would be shot during the game.

Plenty of fights going on in the Leazes End I seem to remember . How times have changed.

Blackburn at home in 91, 0-0, can barely remember anything about it bar the walk through the turnstiles and little patdown security area before going up to Gallowgate and sitting on top of the concrete barriers. I had a terrible run of going to odd games because my Dad worked offshore and never seeing Newcastle score, always drawing 0-0 or getting beat, running all the way to the Premiership and the first game I have clear memories of with Teddy Sheringhams sole goal in our first Prem game home to Spurs. After that everything went all season tickets and we could only go to European and cup games until the ground expansion. Honestly can't remember the first goal I ever saw, first one that stuck in my memory was Ginola against Ferencvaros.

Season ticket holder since I finished uni and had an income, so I think this is my 8th season having moved from old Level 7 to the East Stand when they tried to move us to the 'singing section'/worst view in the stadium...

I'm glad you added that last bit, as I was about to say based on your record, please, please, please don't ever go to watch another match again - ever. But clearly you've witnessed plenty of wins now. <ok>

As a youngster I will make Obi feel old and say this is my 20th season of having a season ticket, though until 1998 I had to let my sister go to about a third of the games.

2001 ( I think) at home to Everton.
6-2 with a big Al hattrick. Even Carl court scored!
