I think that rain and snow will have less of an effect than previous seasons because of the relaid pitch. So we will be able to refine our passing game right the way through the season instead of relying on thud and blunder in the home games after Christmas.
You can't teach an old dog new tricks. It was always going to be hard for players like Taylor and Nosworthy to adapt to a playing style like this. I think with some of the players, such as Abdi, it's just a case of getting used to the style of play, workrate and players around them. Anyone who thought it would work straight away were naive.... I'm going to give Zola some time to make things work. Either way, 3 points after 2 games isn't bad.... and it's not easy opposition.
I am ok with it, although, I haven't seen any first hand. My only concern is what a lot of you have voiced, can some of our players cut it passing the ball on the deck all the time. Zola needs to have plan B, C and D incase this doesn't work. Don't put all your pizzas in one oven.
He did have a plan b, lump it up to Iwelumo. Like with Palace it worked very well..... however Leo Beleck was on too late.
Watford Observer ‏@Observer_Owl Yes I've heard a few #WatfordFC players have been told they can leave @Chris_G_ Some need to when you have a professional squad of 35
he wasn't so bad yesterday in fact..but definitely he shouldn't be first choice...if SD had stayed, he'd have been out the door, of that i'm sure.
90% of the clubs that get promoted to the Prem play a passing game. And we finished mid-table under Vialli, so if it hadn't of worked then we would of gone down. The problem that season was players on massive wages compared to other players earning much less. Saturday's win was a fluke was it??? Nah, why not go the whole hogg, any game Watford win this season it will be down to 100% luck wont it.
On Saturday we didnt play very well at all... we played a side that is almost guaranteed relegation... its no surprise they got spanked 4-1 by Bristol City. It was a brilliant win determination wise but we honestly cannot say we created enough chances in that game to justify a clear win. 2 of the goals were goalkeeping errors so no it was not a fluke but we cant expect results like that based on that level of performance. Also im mystified as to the attitude towards Joe Garner. Garner is clearly putting everything into his performances but he is just not the right player in that position. Swansea play 4-3-3 with Graham as the spear head. Saints play 4-3-3/4-5-1 with Lambert as the spear head. Norwich had Holt as the spearhead... I sense a trend in the type of player required? The problem lies with Zola's tactics in this case. Stop playing Joe Garner on his own with no support and expect him to win Aerial balls with a positive outcome, its madness. We need a decent targetman striker with the ability to control and holdup a football. Not someone who rests on the shoulder of the defender or who relies on good movement to poach goals.
What do we think of Zola's style of play? A very good point for discussion, but maybe a bit premature? have we seen Zola's style of play yet? Or have we seen some players in transition from a previous style of play or new into the club, who are trying to adapt and have yet to get that right...
Well emiatss we are all entitled to our opinion but I think Ipswich will give Blackpool a really good test this afternoon.....oh.
Gotta agree with this! Team's stamina needs work though, I felt they just slowed down in the second half.
First time I have been able to see the new style play and I thought the first half was great. Never thought I would see the day when Lloyd brought a high ball to him down with instant control and followed it with a perfect pass both in direction and weight. 1st half Brum seemed to be chasing shadows.
if Zola's style of play was the first half today, i bloody love it...when we can consistently play like that we'll be a real force to be reckoned with!
