I can't see us beating you if I'm brutally honest, I would expect a pretty tight scrappy game, 1-1- or 1-0.

    Cliftonmugpie,
I hope you are right - it was an entertaining game and you had more quality in midfield and coming off the bench.

    greenhousemeadowman,

i think we have a better side this year than last, and we had a good season last year, yet in saying that the shrews contributed towards a cracking game.

we could have lost and that tells me you shrews will do ok<cheers> off to pub.

well, we were better than Notts County, but we blew it, we should have had at least had a share of the spoils, 3pts dropped for us i think!!....we have got to take our chance's or we could struggle this season...and bloody tighten up at the back!!!!!!

Good game sparked into life by 2 remarkable events. First the most outrageous penalty award that you will see this season, and the second a truly excellent solo goal by Grandison. Whatever you say about poor defending, the lad showed great pace and strength and a good finish.

The penalty was a game changer, up until that point, Shrewsbury had little going forward I had Notts down to go on and win 2-0. I didn't think Morgan had the pace he possesses, he was a real handful and Gary Liddle a midfielder playing at the back had his toughest game this season.

IMHO the penalty award had an effect on the Shrews defence as well, they seemed reluctant to put tackles in as surely the referee would even things up to spare his embarrassment. The defensive hesitancy allowed Notts to go on and win, against a shrews side who competed well and are organised, but did not play the football that they are capable of. The reason for me was that Richards spent most of the match shadowing Judge, and this tactic neutralised both.

Overall, the right result, but Shrewsbury will gain some positives from the game. However, a couple of injuries and your lack of depth will be cruelly exposed. Turner must play the loan card carefully and you will be ok.

I will be at the return for sure, Notts are dangerous on the road.

i went to the game and the stats will back me up, you wasn't better than us,you did well i will agree with that but to say you was better no way.
penalty what penalty both players had a handful of shirt............you blew it because the better team scored more goals, anyway good luck for the season but i don't think you will need it.

i wonder if this game was town's stiffest opposition so far. it is pleasing to note that our first 5 games have been against top sides, surely it will get a little easier soon, but gt must sort our striker problem soon

our marv is gradually earning his place although a few goals would help. el tel appears to gone off the boil rapidely and imo should be on the bench,

before gt goes down the loan route i urge him to experiment with what we have, parry, hall, grandison, bradshaw and doble should all be capable of playing up front with our marv. from all the criticsm i read of germaine's defending, surely he could be coached to play up front, midfield, or on the wing.

what do others think, as we could finish up loaning a lemon to coin a phrase!

Notts were the better side and caused no end of problems but having said that we gifted them all 3 goals with lax passing and defending. Definite penalty right in front of us and the referee. Grandison must have beaten 25 players before stroking the ball home for the second.

To cap it all, altogether now "It had to be Hughes (You)" FFS

    Atcham,
You make an interesting point about Grandison - he could well be a dominant box-to-box midfielder rather than a full back. I would not be too critical of his defending - it is the responsibility of one of the midfield to cover for him when he is bombing forward and that covering play does not happen often enough for me. I think that was part
of what GT meant when he talked about naive defending. Surely at 2-2 away with a few minutes left we should not be getting caught on the break like that, especially with Grandison on a yellow and understandibly reluctant to pull the winger down.

no way, we were by far the more classier side, it was just a couple of stupid mistakes lost it for us, and Notts are fighting well above their weight ...without Lee Hughes you would be pretty ordinary team:emoticon-0147-emo:

Mugpie is bang on with his reply.

This is Notts' third year in Lg1. Despite your early season confidence, things run away very quickly when you are not winning. You need to develop more humility or it will be a painful season for you.

The good news is you have Turner to steady the ship.

having suffered the feast of the conference for a season and a long stay in L2, the shrews need no lessons in humility. yes we have had frequent moments against championship and premier sides, when we are entitled to gloat.

at least all our success's have been built on a tight shewstring and sound finance, unlike many other clubs on high overdraughts and waiting anxiously for the bankmanager, vat man, administrator or all three. who are we? we are the shrews from shrewsbury town. the pride of shropshire. floreat salopia! humility? what is that!
