Perhaps? I can't think of anyone who is more deserving, what is it, 76yrs since a Brit won a slam?? I know it has been a super summer of sport in GB but who else has won both olympic gold and a major title this year?

Did anyone actually watch the match last night? I don't have Sky Sports but if I had I would have stayed up to watch it even if it had meant suffering today at work. I watched the live updates both online and on SSN until AM took the first set and then I knew I had to sleep, I had a feeling it was going to be a long match!

I hope this will now put a stop to the Murray haters and doubters, the ones who say he only won because such and such wasn't playing or worse that someone "let" him win - puleese! Andy has made us all proud, Dunblane, Scotland and the whole of the UK, he has done something very special apart from all the afor mentioned he has turned the infamous town of Dunblane into a special place for all the right reasons, he has put to bed the dreadful history of this place and that awful person (I will not mention his name) who made it so, that is all in the past now. Dunblane these days is famed as Andy Murray, the 2012 US Open winner's home town. Well done Andy!

Well! It had to happen one day!

The day has finally arrived when Andy Murray stops being Scottish and officially becomes British!!!!

Plenty of worthy candidates this year: Mo Farah, Jessica Ennis, Chris Hoy, Bradley Wiggins to name just a few.

Maybe Ivan Lendl should win it.

Wiggo will win. The first brit to win le tour plus olympic gold.

Remember cycling is huge now in the uk and although a lot of people have warmed to Murray theres still a lot of stupid haters out there. Besides he will win a few more now and most likely get his spoty when he wins wimbledon.

Yes I agree Wiggo stands a good chance of taking it, Andy Murray could well be runner up this year.

Actually Wiggins reminds me a lot of Andy Murray - they both seem uneasy talking to the press, understandably so in Andy's case. I have no time for the AM haters or this stupid Scotland v England nonsense.

    Its a four horse race:

    Andy Murray
    Jessica Ennis
    Mo Farah
    Bradley Wiggins

Everyone in the top 10 shortlist would have competed in the Olympics apart from maybe Lewis Hamilton or Jenson Button if they win World Championship and Rory McIlroy.

Personally I can't choose from those 4 all inspiring people and people who I adore for there brilliant London 2012 performances.
