Our Defence. How good are they with 19 clean sheets under their belt this season. Jose Fonte scoring as if he is a Centre Forward not a Centre Half. Scoring his 7th goal this weekend. 3 Changes to the 4 of our back line. No difference with all those changes. Clean sheet. Passing the ball out of defence & happy to pass along the back line waiting for an opening in general play. Kelvin as 5th man & sweeper. The experience of Fonte & Jaidi mixed with younger skilful defenders. Aerial ability especially the Big Man Jaidi & others New youngster Stephens from Plymouth joining the club as a young defender with huge potential. Which other Under 21's defenders have pro contracts ? Aarran Racine ? Ben Reeves ? Ryan Tafazolli ? & Sam Argent ? What are these youth players like ? Has anyone seen much of them ?
The defence has done so well especially in the last 12 games but are still prone to some blunders! The game at Rochdale was lost by 2 defensive mistakes (I was there!) and we gifted Brighton a goal. 19 clean sheets is quite an acheivement though.
Looking at it another way it is nearly half the games that have been played. That is some achievement. The defence certainly deserves a pat on the back. If they make the auto's every player in the squad will have played their particular part somewhere.
The youth players are excellent. Especially Sam Argent who I'm guessing they will give a new contract to as whenever I have seen him play, he's been a beast! Ben Reeves has just signed a new 2 year contract and has been brilliant recently playing further forward. Both Taffazoli and Racine are great talents, hopefully they will also get new contracts.
No sign of these guys being rewarded new contracts yet! I will be shocked if Argent doesn't get a new contract!
