Strangest/funniest thing you've seen at a football match

I'd like to hear the wierdest and funniest things people have witnessed at a football match, whether it be the good old streakers being rugby tackled at Wembley vs Bolton in the play-off final or an animal running on the pitch quite randomly during a proffessional game.

One of my memories, is when Vialli (i just spat on the floor, shouldn't do that at work) was manager and Pierre Issa dislocated his shoulder during the match. The stretcher bearer when taking him off the pitch was not wearing boots but flat soled shoes and slipped over, dropping the stretcher, meaning Pierre fell off it on to the same shoulder he just dislocated!!

Part of me wanted to laugh and the other wanted to kill the st johns ambulance man for possibly making a worse injury to what was one of our better players that season.

 

I think it has to be at the Liverpool v Udinese match last night when the Udinese defender just threw the Liverpool winger to the ground and walked away with a smug grin on his face. It was classic.

 

Watford losing a game when the floodlights go out.

The game had to be abandoned as someone had stolen the fuses.

 

That did make me chuckle as well. Thought it might have been worth more than the yellow card too, as if he did that on the street he'd have been arrested for assault!

 

Been at a game where it blacked out when we were winning too. Very frustrating if you're on the recieving end, but a great result if you get a second chance in a match you were losing. Doesn't seem to happen so much these days.

 

I remember Luther Blissett (I think?) running forward with the ball and the entire opposition standing still because they thought they should have been awarded a free kick. Luther slotted the ball home much to the amusement of the Watford fans.......I'm not sure but I think it was Arsenal away

 

That sounds like the cup game when we beat them 3-1 at Highbury.

I still get a chuckle out of the Brian Owen goal against Tranmere when his shot ballooned over the Rookery roof only for the wind to blow it back again & it dropped down into the goalmouth and bounced up into the net. Cue much mirth when the ref awarded a goal.

 

In the 08/09 season in the fa cup against Crystal Palace, we went 3 up and a palace fan got onto the pitch (with his clothes on thankfully) and ran along the pitch swearing to the crown in the rous stand. It was funny when they rugby tackled him down. it was even funnier when we scored another goal just as he got escorted away.

Sorry, it was from a different era - no cameras at all at The Vic back then, unless we played a Div 1 team in the cup. There are a few on these boards who will confirm it though.

 

I can remember that too , was on the rookery at the time. Another funny thing which I saw in the Bundesliga in Germany was Jen Lehmann being caught short during a match and having to go behind the goal for a pee ! Fortunately for him the ball stayed up the other end.

 

When I was at Uni I went to watch Cardiff v Northampton at Ninian Park and the Town centre forward was sent off. His surname was McClean!

 

The funniest thing so far on this thread is that Issa is described as "one of our better players that season". He was dreadful from start to finish, and summed up all that was dreadful about that dreadful Vialli episode. Did I mention that Issa was dreadful?

 

Couple things from recent seasons,

Martin Taylor being challenged in the air by a forward (unfortunately i can't remember who), the forward being drastically smaller, hitting taylor full on in the back before landing on the floor in a heap. Taylor turns around, shrugs and walks off as if nothing happened.

Last year against Blackpool at home, where their players seemed to be getting injured every other minute. Harry decided to give a hand by grabbing a small first aid bag from the family stand and gesturing frantically to the ref to let him on to help.

Probably funnier at the time

 

I remember the Harry incident. It was brilliant improv.

 

Along these lines in the 60s Gerry Queen played for that lot at Selhurst Park. Once, after he had been sent off the headline in one paper was "Queen involved in fight at Palace."

 

My memory of that goal is of the Tranmere goalkeeper going behind the goal to collect the ball then racing back as fast as he could but too late to stop the ball going into the net.
