Demba Ba has told Newcastle to double his wages if they want to keep him at St James’ Park, writes the Sunday People.

People Sport has been told that the Senegal striker will activate a release clause in his contract – which allows him to move for a cut-price £7.5million – if he is not offered a staggering £90,000-a-week deal.

There is no way owner Mike Ashley will consider such a whopping rise so Ba, who is on £40,000 a week, seems certain to move in January, with Liverpool favourites to sign him.

The Ba camp claim that Newcastle did not honour their promise in the summer to increase his wages to a round £50k. But Ba did stay on Tyneside after a move to Galatasaray fell through because of his £100,000-a-week demands.

Ba does not seem to be hitting it off with his fellow Senegal striker Papiss Cisse.

Indeed avid watchers of Newcastle claim that Ba often shoots for goal when Cisse is in a better position and crying out for a pass.

Whatever Ba’s intentions, Newcastle will not allow him to move unless they have a replacement lined up. Two seasons ago they allowed Andy Carroll to move to Liverpool for £35million and did not have time to replace him before the transfer window closed.

But talk that Newcastle were lining up Marseille striker Loic Remy is wide of the mark.

Newcastle are missing no fewer than NINE first-team players but boss Alan Pardew does not want to use injuries and suspension as an excuse for his side’s rather alarming slide down the Premier League table.

He said: “We are missing a lot of creative talent at the moment and being without this many would be a big blow to any team in the Premier League but we are not going to bleat about it.

“So we are going to have to find a new way of winning games. Our success last season was based on our number of clean sheets and the discipline of our back four and keeper.

“But because of our European commitments the work we have been able to do on this has been minimal.”

I don't blame Demba for trying to get top dollar but there is no way Mike will smash our wage structure for one player.

There are of course other ways to top up salaries through image rights, bonuses etc.. So hopefully both parties will talk.

90K? If true it'll be bye bye Demba. You don't get that sort of money here. I'd like to keep him but I don't believe in changing the wage structure. We're not in a position to offer those types of wages.

Demba Ba is loooking for a new big money contract to stay at Newcastle

    Have your say(0)
DEMBA BA is on a collision course with Newcastle United after demanding wages of £90,000 a week.
The striker, who has been a big hit on Tyneside since joining the Geordies at the beginning of last season on a free transfer from West Ham United, is currently on a contract worth £40,000 a week.
Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has imposed a strict wage ceiling at St James’ Park and the club have indicated to Ba’s advisers that they are prepared to increase his weekly earnings by only £10,000.
It seems increasingly likely that the 27-year-old, who also has a £7 million transfer clause in his contract, will move on – possibly in the January transfer window.
The club are also concerned over a rift which has developed between Ba and fellow Senegalese strike partner Papiss Cisse, who joined from German side SC Freiburg last January. Newcastle have been staggered by Ba’s ultimatum and have become increasingly frustrated by the actions of his advisors.
You are disappointed when you play well and you perform well if you don’t get the three points
    Wigan boss Roberto Martinez
The club were aware that Ba’s men were talking to other clubs, attempting to trigger his transfer release clause and increase his wages in addition to pocketing a hefty agent’s fee. A move to Galatasaray fell through when they asked for £100,000 a week.
Now the Newcastle board will stand firm over the latest contract negotiations, even if it means losing the striker who has struck eight Premier League goals so far in a disappointing season for the club.
Liverpool are keen to add Ba’s firepower to their depleted attacking armoury, while new QPR boss Harry Redknapp considered taking him to White Hart Lane when he was in charge at Tottenham.
Newcastle, who have lost their last four league games, tomorrow night take on a Wigan side whose manager, Roberto Martinez, is counting the cost of a demanding start to the season and knows the next two months will be key to his side’s success.

It's getting to the point where Demba's baggage is outweighing his importance to the team.

Constant talk about the release clause, insisting on playing up top, his "I'm bigger than the team mentality"...good player, but not as good as he or his agents think.

Genuinely think he'll go in either the winter or summer window, as long as a replacement is signed I won't lose any sleep about it either.

Good player but so true. Now becoming a hinderance to the team. Its not so much him but this team of advisors he seems to surround himself with, but at the end of the day he is a grown man and he needs to control that. Obviously I'm wary there are no actual quotes attributed to him or the club, and we are easy pickings for the media at present but this whole saga is becoming boring. It is likely that he can pick up more elsewhere. No doubt he has been playing for himself a little too, he definitely doesn't fancy playing wide or second fiddle to Cisse. I have no problem with him not wanting to play wide but its his body language and the way he goes about things that are slightly concerning. What happens if we get a left sided forward and its a straight competition and Cisse is the guy in better form?

If we did get a left sided winger/forward it would improve us ten fold. Without Cabaye and Tiote paired in the middle we don't have the midfield strength to accomodate Ba & Cisse as a front two.

As you've said, he also seems to be playing for himself of late, taking a lot more long shots, failing to play in other players when the are better positioned, I also think his work rate is down on last year.

Cisse's arrival has certainly bruised Demba's ego that's for sure. Never ceases to amaze me that some players seem to put personal success ahead of the success of the team.

Give Ba a hefty increase and they'll all be queing up for more. The game is being ruined by greedy players and their agents and the sooner it's tackled the better.
In my opinion if wages keep spiralling out of control they will be playing to empty terraces as we poor workers can't afford to go.
Sell him sooner rather than later.

This could be a good thing as we'd never have to see him and Cisse in a 2 man up front ever again :D

This sums it up in a nutshell.
One player isn't bigger than the team.
If he did go, I'd wish him well for his service but will be glad to put an end to the 'will he or won't he' saga.

Why, at this stage, would a player bring this up. I think Demba is an important player, but at this point in time there's no way we should be playing anyone any more to lose games... I mean, we might as well play youth and let tossers blackmailing the club piss off.

The blame for all those things lies on Pardew really. He's the one who released the fact that the release clause was still there after the summer, and he's the one who backed down to Ba over his position.
That being said, I do think you're underestimating his importance to the team though. He's been by far the best attacking threat we've had this season, and I hope he stays.

Anyway, for now this is just paper talk and relatively meaningless.

It's not really Pardew's fault if Ba says to him "keep playing me wide and I'll request to leave the club". It gives Pardew a decision to make, a decision which he's got wrong to date for me, still if Demba had the good of the team at heart we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

A chap called Harry Redknapp may disagree with you about Pardew being the one who leaked the info. If I remember right all Pardew did was comment after the fact.

It is Pardew's fault as he's the manager and he's supposed to keep his players under control. He's failed to do that. If the situation genuinely was Ba saying he wants to be up front or he'll leave then the right thing to do would've been to shift the player out in the summer and bring someone else in so they can gel with the team during pre-season. No player has the 'good of the team' really at their heart, they play for themselves above all else, and Ba's no different.

You've clearly never seen the likes of Rooney, Parker, Tiote, Steven Taylor, Perch and a million other players play. Some players play for themselves, Ba is currently one of these, as is Ben Arfa if I'm being honest.

However you don't see Ben Arfa demanding to play the "Number 10 role" and threatening to leave if he doesn't get paid these. He plays wide right because Pardew feels this is currently the best option for the team.

He wants what he can get based on his calibre playing in this division - other teams will pay more and that it really.

Its our club that cant afford good players and that nobodys fault
