Look, I'm one of Chris' biggest fans, and yes I was so angry to see him sacked. However, having a little think about it - does anyone think he has the tactical nous to get us to within a couple of points of 3rd by May, and finishing above the Champions League winners?

We'd not have come this far with Hughton IMO.

He's a good and upcoming manager, but he's not gonna get a team passed mid table any time soon.

    Pardew is better.

You cant say that Hughtin was doing vey well and if allowed to continue we would have done just as well and better this season - lets not forget he was here when we got Ben Arfa and he also played him in his best position which is NOT the right as he cant cross without cutting in, he also has to cut in side as does Santon on the left so we get very very narrow and it's been worked out now, however Pardew hasn't noticed anything at all and Hughton would in my honest opinion we played better footbal under Hughton and the players were happier.

Bit of a weird one this, the majority of fans have huge respect for Chris Hughton as a person, and were appalled in the manner in which he was sacked.
He lead us through some very low times, he was sacked when we were doing really well, and on the back of a huge Derby win, but the club clearly had no confidence in him, he was never given the elusive managerial contract.
Pardew, much more outgoing and dynamic, talks the talk, had a great season personally last year, and so did the club, but doesn't always get it right, we had some very heavy defeats last season.
We're not doing well at present, Norwich on the other hand are having a total change in their fortunes, I guess this is leading many to have those, 'What if' thoughts. :emoticon-0112-wonde

Thought it was common knowledge that Pards got the job to pay off some cash that he owed MA from a gambling debt.

It's all down to Pardew's hair colour.

Ashley wanted a manager who could bring silverwear to the club.

Alan Pardew has his faults, but is a good bloke. I lack the passion he brings sometimes, even if others hate him for it. He gives big reactions to our derby day games, and gets the players well set for the game.

Pardew is a better manager at the moment for me, and the football we played at points last season, and the sparks we've had this season, including last night; we never player good football like that with Hughton.

We just lumped balls to Carroll all game.

I think this hoofball spell with Pardew is only temporary, and it's just a work in progress getting back to nice football.

I loved hughton but sometimes felt he had the avram grant effect on the team, as in the players got us the wins more than the manager, or his tactics. 4-4-2 at home and 4-5-1 away in our championship season, pardew to me seems to be more tactically aware, stuff like the GPS tracking of the players and his training methods. plus with hughton i just always had the "hes a good manager, isnt he?!" - again thats no concrete reasoning just more how i felt at the time.

Impossible to answer this one. Could Fergie have done a better job than either if he were in their position? I'm not sure. Pardew is better with our current crop, when we play 4-3-3 at least, and Houghton got the best out of some one-trick ponies at a time when aggressive, fairly physical football was more appropriate.

    I'm staying on the fence.

Lets see how Pardew approaches the next two games !!!! in my honest opinion we need to beat Fulham so he should not play any of the side that beat Wigan but if he does we will take it up the arse again on Sunday.

Marv should start on Sunday - him and Anita clicked togther

I think people have very short memories - Pardew was manager of the season last year - I don't think Hughton (as much as I rate him) will ever achieve that.

It'll be a test of Pard's metal this year - yes, we've gone through a tough patch, but the season doesn't finish after 16 games. The Europa has been tough on us, regardless of whether you think it's a lame excuse or not.

Really happy to see Hughton doing well at Norwich though - he was very nearly sacked after the first few games of the season but has really turned it round. Love to see him winning, absolute Gent.

Couldn't pick one or the other, very similar for me. Joke of a sacking (just as Pardew would be now) and I'm pleased he has gone on to prove what most of us knew. Maybe Hughton edges it as he better with a camera in his face <laugh> Obviously that matters little but I have to split them somehow!

CH is 54 today by the way. Really nice guy and well thought of by most people in football apart from ourselves.
