Interesting and encouraging that David Haigh met with Leeds City Council before the game on Saturday. Itâs a good sign that the club are starting to mend fences with the many who Bates managed to piss after (coming soon after we welcomed the BBC back). If GFH are smart then theyâll know that it also makes good business sense to have good relations with the council. Not only are they a major employer in the city (and part of our fanbase) but we could revisit the option of borrowing money from the council to buy back Elland Road (as councils can take out loans at a lower interest rate than most banks, due to prudential borrowing rules and AAA credit ratings). And remember that Manchester Council subsidised the building of the City of Manchester Stadium (not that City need the money now). http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...-Manchester-City-won-the-stadium-lottery.html Iâm not saying that either scenario is going to happen but it bodes well that Haigh et al are having growth up conversations rather than resorting to petty sniping.
I'm not comfortable with the idea of taxpayer money going on private football clubs. GFH should get the money to rebuy the stadium themselves IMO, that's the only sustainable solution. Current rent, a future repayment scheme: it's all still a weight on our shoulders with a moneyman breathing down the club's neck. We just need to own it outright and without debt. Seek further investment to that end if necessary.
I don't believe that is the intent. It is more of the City Council arranges the loan to facilitate the club accessing cheaper capital. No taxpayers or animals should be harmed during this process.
If it's good enough for Valancia! http://elpais.com/elpais/2013/01/21/inenglish/1358798040_751687.html
Dont believe it will be gfh buying either Elland Road or Thorpe, they just dont have the resources. Far more likely, next owners after them.
